Default Help with firearm ID.

My Dad bought this quite awhile back. He was told it was VC tunnel gun from Vietnam but I don’t think so due to some English markings on it.

It’s a bolt action single shot. It’s cocked by pulling a knurled striker back once a round is chambered. I’m not sure of the caliber as it’s not marked but it’s just a little smaller than 9mm. It looks like it has a brass barrel which is rifled. The grip is all wood with checkering. Quality overall seems fairly good.

The only markings I can find are a “K” on the left side of the chamber just below the rear sight, and a “AM” or possibly “AVI” in the same location on the opposite side.

A friend of mine who was a tunnel rat in Vietnam said he didn’t think it was a VC gun as they preferred wheel guns and .45’s. He did mention that the Aussies had something that was possibly a single shot that they used to deal with uncooperative prisoners.

In the last picture I cocked it for firing.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Zip gun....

Not likely a VC made gun. It's to nice. The markings are in English...

Without actual bring back papers, which would have been required to transport it back to the US, it's just a zip gun.

Yeah, the markings lead me to believe it was part of a larger run so I was hoping someone may have something more solid. I think the VC angle is extremely unlikely st best.

Thanks for the input!

Looks like something I cobbled together 40 years ago from a single shot 22 rifle.

Not to be that guy, but hopefully didn't start life as a rifle ...

Looks like a home built target pistol. Maybe started life as a single shot 22 rifle. Very similar to one built by Merlin Ellis of Santa Cruz, CA when he was a broke young man and wanted to compete at the local matches. Won his share of awards with it before he could afford a HS or Woodsman.

It could be I suppose. I didn't have it at home so couldn't check to see what caliber, if any would fit the chamber.

Good question. It is rifled. I will have my Dad check to see if is brass or just plated.

This thought crossed my mind as well. The action looks a bit similar to the Winchester Model 60 to me.

Yes, it may be a one of a kind, homebuilt thing.

Thanks for the input all. I'm still digging around about it and appreciate the thoughts.

My first thought, and possibly as an early UK/Canadian/European rifle.
