So what is the deal with standard capacity magazines? Are we allowed to use them with our CCW. It seems like we can according to the judge but what does the Sheriff think?

Default Any advice

Hello all, I just submitted my paperwork online for Riverside county and got my interview date. I will be doing firearms training and qualifying in august even though I have not been approved yet, is there any advice or information you all might have.

Where you going for your qual and training class?

There's always a shot at picking up a sooner interview date if you check back daily. Really the one thing that ties up the process is waiting for your interview date. From my experience and what I've read off of here, it takes about 3-5 weeks from your interview date to get the CCW issued so long as all your paperwork is in order.

This would be a great question for someone to ask when they go visit Ben Clark to pick up their permit. I emailed my investigator about this and never received a response, and then completely forgot asking when I visited in person.

If someone asks this and gets an answer, we'd all be very appreciative to hear what you're told!

I get that. But I guess we're mostly interested in hearing from the horses mouth whether we'd be safe in using them, or if we'd risk being the next Pheng Yang here in Riverside County

Fortunately his charges were dropped. But the man should've never been arrested to begin with.

The horses mouth is not a Sheriff or Police Chiefs, it's all the District Attorneys across this state and the Attorney General on whether or not they are going to prosecute you for having these on your person while out in the public. You can roll the dice and take your chances of dropped charges, jury acquittal, lawyer fees, confiscation of your magazines, etc. Or you can be safe with what you have, practice extra magazine loading skills and wait for the higher courts to settle this. Also when someone blogs a law, they should cite their source or section and not just leave it for self-interpretation and truth in somebody's word. Stay leery my friends!

i partially agree with you on this.
do i think he should have been arrested for the magazines, no. but the dude did have his brother living with him, which i believe was a felon? so that in itself is just asking for trouble if you ask me.

regardless, i carry 2-3 17 rd magazines on my person for my glock 45.

FWIW, I had emailed the same investigator who processed my initial paperwork.
This may or may not helped the process. Hang in there brother...

I will take a look. I did find another CCW class in Fallbrook that I might sign up on.

Side note: I already submitted my application and was wondering if anyone could give me some guidance if I need to brush up on my good cause statement (via pm of course). I feel it might be lacking and possibly cause a delay.

My interview is scheduled for tomorrow and I have not received an email or any directions yet. Do I just go to the Ben Clark training center and say I have an interview? Do I take any documents?

Went great. Interviewed on the 14th and just got my email saying I have been approved and to go pick up my permit on the 18th. It was a 4 month process for me overall since I started it mid March.

The investigator was very nice and she gave me some guidance on my GC letter.

I had done some research on the GC letter and had originally wrote about my background, training, current events like the riots and lax criminal laws in California. I ended up taking that all out and basically had 3 paragraphs.

I wrote about crime near my home, acknowledged that I can't carry at work but that I do work late hours and social activities like hiking, camping and road trips.

Thanks Echo, that's encouraging!

I also applied mid-March, and hadn't heard a word since my phone interview in early April.

I'm cool with it though, I would hope they push all of the renewals through first.

when i did mine. took well over 30 day's and that was in the beginning of April. I'm still waiting on my Mod. that is going on over a month and a half. Did your firearms clear DOJ yet? That will take the longest since they are still behind i think.

Patience is a virtue my friend... Hang in there

Make sure your status is clear....

In Riverside, is an actual birth certificate needed for renewal paperwork or will a passport work? Thanks in advance.
