Wow. What an amazing response this turned out to be from my small attempt to help new shooters. Thank you to all of those who also offered up ammo to youngsters. Calgunners are really great people. I am proud to be associated with all of you. I didn't get any takers for my offer so the ammo is still available. In my case, at least, I am changing my offer to include anyone who needs ammo for their kid (or grandkid, niece, nephew, etc) to shoot. I don't know if this thread should remain a sticky or not; I will leave that decision to wiser heads. I am changing the title of the tread to remove the Christmas limitation. Whether anyone who has offered ammo for Christmas wants to open up their offer like I did is completely up to each individual.

Good job, guys!

Hdawg. This was a great idea and seems to have worked very well. I have 100 rds listed for kids on another thread.

Will offer to more 50 rd bags here to parents or grandparents wanting to take kids shooting. No rules or requirements. Will work on the honor system. First to pm will get the ammo and I will post them here.

Will meet in rocklin near sportsmans warehouse.

No takers on the ammo offered for kids. I'll be st SVSC Monday and will hand it out there if I see any families shooting.

Just wanted to drop in here and say good looking out for our young shooters. I was going to hit up this thread for some ammo as a last resort for my son but i lucked out a few days ago at a Walmart. As soon as the weather clears up we're going to put a few down range. Nothing but rain and snow locally for the last few days.

OP,
Wonderful and generous Idea! I agree wholeheartedly,
DO IT FOR THE CHILDREN!
I'm taking my nephews out soon for their first smokeless powder adventure,
2 rifles and a pistol, all 22s. I don't need any ammo, but thanks anyway.
I'll provide them with all the ammo they can shoot in an afternoon. What fun
I'm going to have almost as much fun as they will!

I have alot of .22 ammo. I was in Walmart a few weeks back and a guy was there with maybe a 11 year old girl that said she liked to shoot her .22. There was no ammo there so I said I would give them some.

They kinda looked at me like I was some kind of pervert and walked away

Oh well I tried..

I'm running a multi-family range event.

While I am prepared and have sufficient .22LR to cover my family's needs, it seems that not all of the families who are coming were as resourceful.

Bottom line is, we have a bunch of 9-15 year old children, most of whom are running .22 rifles; but are going to be a little short on ammo when the time comes (end of this month).

And I refuse (as will all of the families who will benefit) to accept the ammo "free," I can trade for .223 or .45ACP; and I will post pictures too.

I'd come pickup the ammo, I live in the East SGV.

Took two youth to the range Sunday.
They planned ahead and secured rimfire ammunition.

Some of the adults in the group ran dry unfortunately.

Good job on the kids part for planning ahead and setting a good example

I stopped by Walmart last week and seen something I hadn't seen in over a year, so I picked up the 3 boxes of 50 I could. Then I stopped by the gun store and gave them a box to give to the next 22lr gun sale for a kid

Default .22

I am taking my 11 year old out this sat. morning and i would love to get some ammo. Its so expensive at the gun shows and in the armories. What i am really looking for is a left handed .22 for my son. He is very interested in shooting with me but its hard to take him out because he is a lefty. Can you or some one help me keep my generation of shooting and hunting in my family...thank you .

Even though I haven't had any takers, I want to keep this offer going for this Christmas, too. I will edit the OP to indicate this. Thanks again to everyone who has offered up ammo to help keep our shooting heritage alive in the younger generation.

Ran into a Boy Scout troop last week at the range. They had very little 22 with them and they were expecting to be able to buy some from the range, which of course didn't have any to sell. Since I had some 22 with me, I ended up give them a bunch to shoot (2/3 of a brick).

Honestly if it wasn't for this thread, it would have never occurred to me to offer it to them.

And just think that if SB53 had passed it would have been illegal for you to give it to them.

BTW, in keeping with the spirit of this thread I am in the Rocklin/Roseville area and have a 100 round box of CCI Blazer for anyone taking a new shooter to the range.

Hi, I finally got a .22 for my kids to shoot. I pick it up this week. They are 9, 8, and 6. I am having a real hard time finding any ammo. I'm not looking for any handouts as I can afford the ammo. But if anyone in the Modesto/Turlock area has 100-200 rounds they could sell me so that I can take them shooting it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If you're in the Sacramento area and bought your kid a 22 for Christmas but can't find ammo, PM me. Not fair the kids can't enjoy their firearm presents because you can't find the ammo.
