We're having a 600 and 1,000 yard matches on Saturday, March 19 if any of you guys are interested in trying it out or even watching.
I will not be there because I have to fly to Kentucky tomorrow and even if I make it back in time, I can't shoot because of a shoulder injury. Saturday, 19th, 8:00am - 600 Mid Range, 60 Shots, (3 strings of 20 shots) 10:00 am - 1,000 yard 40 shots (2 strings of 20 shots) Bring at least a half a dozen more rounds for sighters, more if you don't have a long range zero. We’ll assign positions at 8:00 AM and Noon for the afternoon match. There’s no need to pre-register, everyone will get a chance to shoot. We are now an electronic target range. The club utilizes ShotMarker targets. These targets eliminate the need for manning the pits and result in dramatically reduced match times. The targets are pretty sweet and allow you to focus hard on shooting and improving for the next match. All of our matches are NRA approved and open to the public. Cost is $20 per match (for non-members) and includes $4.50 fee for score submittal to NRA. $5 discount for club members. NRA membership is not required to participate or to earn an NRA classification. All are welcome to arrive early Friday or Saturday and can camp on the property. If you are into running water there’s the Buckhorn Inn in New Cuyama, a place in Maricopa and a couple of places in Taft, 20- 30 minutes drive from the range. Google "TriCounty Rifle Range" on Google Maps for turn by turn directions. The range is located east of CA33 about 3 miles south of the 33 and 166 juncture. Look for a green Palma sign east of 33 at the Foothill Rd intersection. Turn into the field and drive straight back to our shade structure. Please be mindful of the fields as they may be planted (stay on the well worn path). Bring all your safety equipment and a shooting mat, the match is shot prone and a bipod or front rest is allowed, along with front and rear sand bags. A good 100 yard zero (Look on JBM Ballistics to build a drop chart for the range that you are shooting. Use 100 yard increments out to 1,000 yards, The elevation at the range is 2,650 feet above sea level). Use 40 degrees F for the morning shoot and 60 deg. F for the afternoon shoot. __________________

Yes Dane, we're shooting both matches on Saturdays now. We started the 1,000 yard match at about 10:00.
Yesterday was fun, it started raining and blowing in the middle of my first string.

It's only open to the public during matches. They don't have anyone there other than members when there is not a scheduled event.

I think that's the only way you can join is in person at the matches or maybe at their monthly meeting if they have one.
You might PM calguns user Crowbar for more information as well. I believe he is still the club president. If he's not, I am sure he can point you to the right person. https://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/member.php?u=3065

Frank is a good host to show you the ropes as he brought me out my first time, and it sounds like it will be easier to get the hang of now that they moved to an electronic system.
I've been really meaning to go out again soon finally as I don't think I have been out there for about 6-7 years since my first kid was born. |

Sorry guys, I've been travelling a lot lately.
The only way to join the Tri County Rifle Club is at the monthly matches. Ed Jack is the Club President and John Hanger is the Treasurer. Neither of them are regulars on Calguns. I try to be there every month but sometimes travel gets in the way. I leave for Connecticut tomorrow for a week and the week after that I'll be in Kentucky.
