Default Los Angeles County CLEO for FFL03 question

I live in Compton.

Our local law enforcement is the LASD.

Do I mail my FFL03 application to someone at the local substation in Compton, or do I mail it directly to THE Sheriff of L.A. County? (Sheriff Jim McDonnell)

A copy goes to Sheriff McDonnell. The actual application goes to the BATFE.

The copy sent to the CLEO is informing them you're applying for a FFL. They don't approve or deny anything. I just drove over to the station and handed it to a person at the front desk informing them it was a copy of the FFL03 application for the chief of police along with a cover letter.

Sample Cover:
SAMPLE LETTER TO ACCOMPANY NOTIFICATION FORM 5300.36

<your name,
address...>

Chief/Sheriff <name>
[address...]

<date>

Dear Chief/Sheriff:

I am applying to the BATF for a Curios and Relics Federal
Firearms License (C&R FFL).

As per Section 923(d)(1), Title 18, U.S.C., enclosed please find
a signed copy of ATF F 5300.36 notifying you of my intent to do
so.

Further please note that a C&R FFL is not a regular dealer FFL,
and will not allow me to operate as a dealer. It is simply for
private collecting of certain firearms defined as curios or relics
by the BATF.

Form F 5300.36 requires no action on your part.

Sincerely,
<your signature>
<your typed name,
<if letter is typed>

Do they do anything with these copies we mail?

I suspect they go straight to the dumpster like the L.A. ammo records.

It may be awesome, but it's not necessary unless you think your CLEO or his assistants have never seen a CLEO copy of a C&R application.

When I moved from Menifee to Winchester I had to send a change of address and a CLEO letter in. I sent it to the Sheriffs office in Riverside. I got a call from a clerk asking if I was applying for a CCW. I said no it was a FFL03 and a courtesy letter per the BATF. She said I needed to send it to the sub station in Hemet. I did and got a call from a LT, that said it was the first one he had ever received. So not all LEOs are aware of the requirements set fort from a federal level.

If you were to call 911, who would respond? Go to that agency's web site, and you'll find all of the contact information.

ETA:
Looks like Porter Ranch falls under LAPD. LAPD Chief is Michael Moore. Contact info can be found here

Which LASD office do I send the copy to? Im in Lancaster

I cant even get an answer from my local LASD on this
The Sheriff's Headquarters is no longer at 4700 Ramona Blvd. Hasn't been there for some time. Try 211 West Temple St. L.A.

I live in Rancho Cucamonga and our local police is the San Bernardino Sheriff department. I drove to the local station in Rancho Cucamonga and handed it in with a letter at the counter. I just renewed in March of 2023, no issues at all.

Do you have a computer? Does it have google? The copy will just disappear into a drawer somewhere. The CLEO is not asked to approve anything

Your cover letters are way too long haha.

Sheriff Shannon Dicuss
Address:

Last renewal I sent to Fontana PD. No issue.
