Default Talk to me about MP5 Clones

Hey everyone,
I have been wanting an MP5 rifle clone for the longest time and figured I would go a head and look into getting one. I searched a bit on Calguns but couldnít find much about some of the other companies.

I looked at the cohaire ca94, which I have heard more bad things than good.

MKE, PTR, ZENITH- heard good things about these brands

Read a little bit about Belt Fed Precision

Saw a company called Interfor Us out of Texas making clones for $1400

Iím prepared to spend about $2K after tax and DROS, would want to go featureless. I have also read that PSA will be or hopefully coming out with their clone later this year. Just looking for a little advice on some of the clones since Iím planning on just getting one.

I'm waiting for the PSA later this year. Looks pretty good from what they've shown off so far. Plus they said it'll be about $1k-$1200. I've never owned any mp5 clones, but I've heard good things about the MKE/Zenith guns, so if you're impatient, I'd go with one of those. Otherwise, I'd wait for the PSA and spend the rest on mags/ammo.

Haven't had any problems with the ones by Omega. Atlantic firearms has them if you want to check it out.

PSA said they would be out in 6 months at the SHOT show. For 2018.

You know the MP5 is obsolete from 40 years ago, right? Even HK has newer models, plus there is the SIG MPX, and even the CZ Scorpion.

I have a DJ Getz.. but he's retired..

Zenith won't sell to CA, so you need to use a broker guy like Audiophil..

Personally, I would go with Beltfed Precision.. mostly because they are in CA and I like supporting people trying to keep guns going in this state. And I've heard good things about them.

If money is no object then the best is Dakota Tactical.. $$$$$

I have heard the PTRs work good, but I don't like the finish on them.. looks wrong.

I built my HK 94 clone a couple years back using a Barreled receiver from beltfed precision. It is by far my most expensive build as the genuine German HK parts are not cheap. I want to say just the bolt carrier was around $500 alone.

At the time Atlantic firearms was getting small shipments of the omega rifles which were selling out almost instantly which is why I decided to build. I've seen the new clones by PTR which are very nice with the exception of the barrel extension(I like the fatter look of the one on the beltfed ones) And they are much more resonably priced.

My MKE has been absolutely flawless. I waited 35 years to get an MP5 clone and I’m glad when I finally got one it’s an MKE!

The MKE and zenith are nice PTR would be runner up. Time will tell where the PSA one will fall but it will probably be inline with PTR.
Just make sure you get HK or zenith mags they are the only ones worth a damn right now but like the MPX they are expensive.
Don't waste your time with ETS mags they are junk.

Does that make the AR15 obsolete too?

Isn't zenith/MKE synonymous?

PTR mags are good too

Itís just an awkward firearm when youíre not shooting it. Everything from magazine insertion, checking a chamber to see if a round is in there, the unreachable to most selector, no bolt hold open....all un-American!

TBH I inspected the Zenith and Omegas first before I bought my PTR and the welding / fit and finish sold me on the PTR. Plus not having to buy 922r parts to Form 1 it was good. I think the only clone I've seen that had better fit/finish was a DT , which was (although awesome) twice as much. Next one I'm gonna roll my own from a all German parts kit.

We Atlantic Firearms have Roller lock action firearms similar to the MP5 in stock that can be made California Legal . The PTR 9R rifle with a grip wrap and 10 round mag is good to go in CA .

I had Carlos at Beltfed Precision build me a MP5 barreled receiver. Fit and finish is perfect and has the 3-lug with pinned barrel extension on it. He sells them complete ready to run as well. Would highly going with a custom build the attention to detail and finish is much better.

Can I buy a zenith z5rs pistol easily or is it off roster and I have to deal with the off roster tax from sellers. Thanks

I just got a PTR 9R. Haven't shot it yet but it looks fantabulous. Every bit as nice as my PTR 91.

Oh, and I sure hope my 1911s aren't obsolete too, lol.

Iíve had a few, mostly from flats and parts kits. The one pictured with the wood grip started life as a Coharie and it ran great with a few upgrades.

I have one of the Omega 9R rifles from Atlantic and out of the box I was not impressed by it's reliability. I've been slow in working on it but after replacing both the ejector lever and the extractor with HK made parts I'm excited to have achieved 100% reliability. I put another 200+ rounds through it today without a single hiccup. Previously I was lucky to get to 50 without a jam. Usually I was seeing at least one per 10rd mag. Thats a kill joy.
Thanks to judge Benitez and the freedom week mag-a-thon! I love being able to use regular 30 rounders

I think most people would disagree with you there. I've heard nothing but good things about them for several years. Their AK's are the only US made AKs that I'd ever buy. Their AR's are good for the money too.

Python, he's upset about a PSA kit that he zeroed and the rear sight wasn't perfectly centered...and doesn't realize that's why sights are adjustable. 😁

when you have to use up the entire adjustment of the rear sight to zero an AR15, there is something wrong.
