Question 1911 grips from my own wood?

I have a nice piece of burl wood (about 1 square foot) - does anyone know of a shop that will make a few pairs of slim 1911 grips from it without charging an arm and a leg? I reckon I could get 3 or 4 pairs from it.

Many years ago, I sent ironwood scales to Hakan Pek for my 1911. They came out real nice.

I don't know if he is still active

He used to have a pic of mine on his page but it is not there anymore. My grips are very similar to this.

Your wood panels should be slow dried, preferably kiln dried, otherwise they will likely warp because of their thinness.

If you send from CA to a more humid area, the wood will likely warp just from atmospheric changes. A way around this might be by having the wood panels first stabilized under vacuum with a polymer.

This is very slow dried. Been sitting around the garage for about 10 years.

I was hoping to find someone local in California to make the grips.

I forgot about her. I actually bought a pair of grips from her. Thank for the reminder.
