In light of the new SCOTUS ruling, now what ?
Having been declined for insufficient GC, I wonder what my next step is. It has only been a few months since I was declined and the general rule is I can reapply after 1 year.

Congrats to my LA friends from a former resident. Good cause is about to go "poof!" in California.

Where are they at with calls for interviews? I applied in late september and just curious where they are at with phone calls in light of the SCOTUS ruling.

About a month ago they were calling Aug-Sept Apps from what I remember.

Looks like today's ruling will be bringing back all sorts of old timers. I am also curious. They are about to get swamped with the majority of applicants who got denied for now unconstitutional arbitrary reasons. I wonder if they, like in the past, will give courtesy call backs to all those who were denied who are all now VERY much eligible. It would be a shame to have to fully re-apply and wait what looks like over a year or more even if we just received a denial months ago.

Villanueva has publicly stated he will follow SCOTUS ruling and not try to combat it. If he holds his word, should be a total 180 as of TODAY. Some of you may have timed this very luckily.

I know this isn't the other states CCW forum, but just got my permit and in the process of obtaining my Utah non-resident CCW. Should I still get the Arizona non-resident CCW? I was planning on getting my fingerprint cards done today. So many questions with this great news from SCOTUS!!!

What’s the consensus here on applying given the new ruling? Should we wait for AV to comment or just apply and refer to the ruling under GC like we did with Peruta a few years back.

My application is currently held up in the Firearms portion of the Livescan. I'm coming to think that while for others the Firearms portion was the bane of the process, it may be my saving grace. Otherwise, I may have been denied prior to SCOTUS ruling.

Here's to hoping that AV follows through with his statements and I get the green light.

You should apply but know that your app will be at least one year in the making, as is mine at this point. Maybe this will clear up one part of the bottleneck at LASD but will still be hung up at DOJ in Sacramento, maybe even more now. Can't know till you try!

It wouldn’t hurt as AZ doesn’t require a passport photo.

Just depends, if you ever end up in WA, UT CCW is needed.
If you end up in NM, AZ CCW is needed.

Also consider some states drop recognition of other state’s permits throughout the years, so having both gives you a piece of mind in case that happens.

So my understanding is that basically makes the good cause moot correct? I basically should in theory make the entire country “shall issue.”

Anyone want to post their hunch on when we see the change reflected in the process in LA?

I feel like that should help things move faster if they don’t have to get everyone’s good cause now. We need Villanueva to be interviewed so he can spell out what the ruling does to the process and backlog.

I would. If they want to continue the good cause game, they open themselves up to a host of lawsuits from both individuals and organizations. It would be a mess

In light of the SCOTUS decision earlier today, you shouldn’t mere a permit,(permission), to exercise your right.
You don’t need one to carry in the home and the decision reaffirmed that right beyond your front door.

Default Update!

Hi All,

Here's my timeline.

Application Recieved 8/3/2021
Check Cashed 9/6/2021
Training Completed 9/8/2021
Live Scan Completed 9/13/2021 (FBI, CA, Firearm)
Call for interview on 5/3/2022
Interview on 5/12/2022 and provided training, livescan, Bank Statements, business license, vehicle registrations. Was told to wait a month before contacting them for an update.
Emailed CCW unit on 6/17/2022 and was told the following: Your file is pending live scan returns. When we receive them, we will contact you.

I thought since my scans were completed awhile ago, they'd have them, which worries me. I provided them the information showing that it was done and completed.

Any insight would be much appreciated.

Also. If you haven't heard, check out the Supreme Court ruling New York on Gun Laws ---->https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.lat...true#cobssid=s

Each hour you wait to apply puts 10,000 applicants in front of you. Reference Justice Thomas opinion and be sure for legal purposes to reference Warren vs Washington D.C., Castle Rock vs Gonzales, and mention names of all the slaughtered children and teachers in Uvalde. These facts all have legal bearing and you're telegraphing the "desk rats" at the Sheriff's Issuing Agencies that you're not going to take it in the culo!

Should we apply now? My good cause is “lawful self defense”. I don’t own a business, I don’t transport large sums of money, i do work in a bad neighborhood so my commute isn’t always the safest but it’s okay where I live…

Just seems that today’s decision might have made the whole country shall issue…

Just seems that today’s decision might have made the whole country shall issue…
You should prepare a proper Good cause statement anyway as it will take a long time for your case to be reviewed. Much can happen in that time and why present a file that is not up to next years scrutiny? They will ask for any related docs when it gets to that review period anyway.

I am past 1 year and the LASD CCW unit emailed me today; "your file and livescan return are under review"

Well, I’ve no idea what a proper good cause statement is. I’ve reviewed some posts here about it but they all cover things that don’t apply to me.

I can carry in thirty-some-odd states, but not where I live.
