Default CCW carry options what would you choose?

For those CCW holders What 3 guns did you put on your permit?

I was thinking 1 for everyday in the city during warmer months something like the Kimber Ultra Cover II
another for the winter months thats full size

and the 3rd for hiking in the back-country that's full size

What harsh terrain backcountry creatures will you be seeing besides feral humans?

When I was bound to the 4 guns, I had a glock 19,26, kahr p380 and a SW 38 spcl. Now that I don't have a limit well...
The thought process was a had a gun for multiple scenarios. The summer the revolver and the Kahr are light and easy to carry in summer clothes, and the Glocks were for when I had heavier clothes or was further from home seeing as they have a much greater capacity.
I have always thought that if I was going to be in the woods alot I would want the small Glock 10mm.

Orange County
HK45c
VP9
VP9sk
G42 for shorts/t-shirt

The last time I was in the woods, I had a 45-70 in my hands rather than slung over my shoulder.

19, 26, p380, any 45.

Off roster availability will allow for better choices.

My "big" gun is a Smith and Wesson 908, it's about the size of a Smith and Wesson Shield.

My "mid-size" gun is a Sig Sauer P290.

My "pocket" gun is a Taurus PT738.

Primary: XD9SC
Secondary: 1911 .45
Tertiary: GP100 (when I had a third and it was for back country use)

But you need to pick guns that you can shoot well and will actually carry. Otherwise what good does the permit do you if you don't use it daily?

Mouse or church gun, in my case, Seecamp.

Chevy carry gun, in my case G19 with standard magazines

Bar b que gun, Colt Commanding Officers in stainless.

Rough and tumble revolver for hiking/camping, etc Ruger Stainless SP 101, .357.

The seecamp gets the most mileage. Even when i am carrying something bigger i have it.

Think about value and ability to replace, because sometimes even if you are a careful planner, you have to leave one in the car in a lock box.

I will never leave my Colt. I could replace the Glock in 10 days.

Round 1: 1911, G23, Shield 40 s&W
Round 2: 1911, G23, Shield 40 s&W
Round 3: G23, G43, Shield 40 s&W

I changed on my 3rd renewal as I thought as you did, I could wear my larger framed weapon during the winter (1911) - to be honest, it never left the safe during my 6 years. I always wore the Shield or Glock. The 1911 was so heavy I avoided it. I tried a shoulder holster to relieve the weight, but it wasn't convenient in our hotter than usual winter months when a jacket would come off in stores or when sitting out dining. My $0.02.

Shield 9mm no safety (carried 98%)
LCR .38sp (carried 2%)
Glock 20 10mm (carried 0%)

If I come across a good deal on a G19 or a G29, I'll pull the G20.

1.Main carry and training tool: CZ75 P-01 9mm.
2. Warm weather / light clothing/ shorts carry : Sig P365 9mm
3. Never carry unless the 1st two are unavailable: Sig P229 .40 ( awesome gun , tough to conceal for me even appendix unless wearing a hoodie or jacket ).

Appendix Carry. Vedder Light Tuck for the 1st two , Jeltec for the P229 (no rail). Hank’s Belts for everyday.

Wish I could carry my SP-01. Trying to hit 10,000 rounds fired on the P-01.

Colt CCO
S&W 627 PC 2 5/8
S&W 642 PC

Lately I’ve been carrying the 627 at 4 o’clock. With a simply rugged pancake it conceals better than the CCO IWB. A bit heavy but not enough to stop me.

XD40 4" which is also what I carry open when I'm out in the woods
Bersa Firestorm 380 when I want to wear shorts.

Looking for another single stack or maybe a hammerless revolver for shorts weather, as the bersa is kinda meh.

Sheesh. Black bears are about as dangerous as domestic cats. A whistle or two pans will scare them off most of the time assuming you have not done something crazy like lathering up in bacon fat.

Kahr cw9, glock 27, and xd40 service, although the xd stays home a lot. It was chosen as a hiking pistol, but I've weighed it down with a light,. The g27 has that duty now.

As long as you can stand still or move forward during the bluff charge, sure.

That is, if you even get that far.

I have three on my permit (can have up to 5 now, I believe) :
- Subcompact: Kahr PM9
- Compact: HK USP 9 Compact
- BBQ: Smith-Wesson PC 1911 4.25"

When I renew, I will add G19. As much as I don't like Glocks in general, I see the value of DAO without levers for a self defense gun. Since we can't have many other guns in this category, G19 will do nicely.

Also, I'm not too sure about the wisdom of HK paddle magazine release in my situation - I train mostly with 2011 and standard release, so having paddle that I don't train with is somewhat of a concern. That's another reason why I intend to add G19 to the list.

Pocket: Ruger LCP
Mid size: Walther PPS
Large: Springfield XDS-45 (same exterior dimensions as PPS)

I’m not regularly anywhere with bears but if I was I’d have at least a .44 magnum of some sort.

I have a friend with a .460 S&W for bears

I'm currently carrying this which requires no CCW and is not considered Lethal. Those are .5" steel balls and that Sling Shot delivers them at 225 fps! They hurt pretty bad and it will give me enough time to either hit the guy with something bigger, take his weapon away, or split. At 15-20 yards, I can hit you every single time in the head.

Five listed on my license (Mendocino County):

1) G19
2) G36
3) M&P Shield 9mm
4) S&W 442 Airweight
5) Ruger LCR .38 with laser

Shield is my primary carry with the 442 next. LCR if we go to a theater to watch a movie. G19 and G36 just because.

I'm in the San Gabriels and the San Jacinto mtns almost every weekend and have yet to see a black bear.

I do have and carry a 10mm (G29) but that's because I plan on hiking in grizzly territory some day.

Here in SOCAL a 357 like the SP-101, K6 or 640 is enough for anything you might run into in the woods.

ANNNNNNNND......
Springfield TRP Operator 1911

two years prior to the 1911 I had a Sig Mk25 Navy on the permit... It's always fun to leave an option for something to torture yourself with

All of them go Appendix, the 1911 absolutely sucks to sit down with.

Kel-tec P32
Kahr CM9
Shield 9
Shield 45
S&W 642

P32 Is most frequently carried when out and about. Will probably be carrying the CM9 when its added to my list (have the cert already). 642 Is always available when driving. Shields probably shoot the best, but I like small.

You see guys qualifying with a billion full size guns, but those of us who actually carry daily will tell you to find something comfortable, train with it often and carry it daily. The only reason to add something else would be to ease transport restrictions. Get a shield, p365 or similar and a solid rig, take some classes and practice monthly. Nothing on four legs or two is going to care what the 147 grain HST comes out of. Personally I have a couple subcompacts and a mid size on the permit, but the midsize is only so I don’t have to mess with locks on the way to the range and it has the same manual of arms as my go to daily carry.
