Another book in the Commune series by Joshua Gayou is coming out later this year.
Commune 5: The Battle of DC ![]() I really liked the first few books, but must admit I was not as enthused by book #4. I have this pending book on my wish list, but I am not yet motivated enough to pre-order it.

I really enjoyed all three of the books in the One Second After series. Forstchen's Day of Wrath is a much shorter book about terrorism - in many ways it is superior to and more disturbing than the One Second After books.

If you listen to Audible audiobooks https://freeaudiobookcodes.com/ is a great site. They have tons of books (changes hourly), and quite a few prepper, survivalism type fiction books.
They have codes for the books for two different markets: US and the United Kingdom. Often they will run out of US codes first but will still have UK codes. I can't count the number of times they would be out of US codes, but still have UK codes and I figured I was out of luck until someone explained I can setup an account with the UK version of Audible as well. Sure enough, simple to set up, I don't have a paid membership with Audible UK, but I can still get books there - I have gotten more than 80 free books so far on my UK account, many many times that on my US account.

I enjoyed the "Rule of Three" series. More for teens, perhaps, but very realistic in many regards.
(EMP scenario of a sort, btw, where the protagonist is a teen boy who just built an ultralight aircraft, and this gives him and his neighborhood an edge in their survival, also their next door neighbor is a former agent/spy who knows what to do.

Bible, the book of Revelation.
1/3 of mankind wiped out. Oceans turn to blood. A storm of meteors weighing 100 pounds. Sky turns black. Monsters released. It doesn’t get more SHTF/TEOTWAWKI than that.

Currently reading Reversion, book one of the Stonemont Series by Steven Smith. It's yet another EMP based SHTF scenario but is pretty well-written, espouses Conservative values, and is holding my interest so far. Free on Kindle Unlimited.

A Long Time Until Now by Michael Williamson has a lot of prepper-type details. A mixed squad of soldiers in Afghanistan are transported back to the paleolithic. The second book in the series, That Was Now, This Is Then was good also.

It's post collapse, I have a couple chapters left in "The Wrath of the Wendigo" by Clay Martin. I read one of his other books but it was less fiction and more instruction on how to deal with collapse as its happening. That one is "Prairie Fire".
I went back and got physical copies of the Matt Bracked "Enemies" series. Actually for about $120 I was able to get signed copies of all his books. The physical ones can't be deleted off Amazon. |

Shoot, it might be close to 20 years since I read that series. I remember the first two books were great, the third...not so much.

He's got two more in a new series that starts with "Castigo Cay". It's pretty good but I don't think he's writing any more.

I haven't read every post on this thread but I do enjoy the post-apocalyptic genre but I don't always enjoy a zombies or if the story turns into a multi-person soap opera with so many different people in the story it's almost like a big city of characters. (* for example The Walking Dead TV series was great when it was only one or a few humans but then it became way overcrowded with mini cities and love stories and save your drama for your mama type of BS).
My thing about post-apocalyptic stories is that you're supposed to reduce the population so the writer can then condense/ concentrate the whole human versus nature or other humans eternal struggle type story. Or at least that's my take on it. It's like those cartoons where the person is on a very small deserted island, so it's a concentration of the story down to just the one or two humans all alone. Anyhow I digress, what I came here to post. I recently found a book where the population is almost completely eliminated and it starts off with just one young man alone. I haven't finished it yet and I was not able to find an audible version so I had to pay $3.99 for the Kindle version but so far so good, Especially if you like just a few characters or possibly even just one character type (and No zombies) apocalypse / apocalyptic /end of the world stories... When I finish it I'll come back and give a full review without any spoilers but since I'm already enjoying it I figured I'd share so here's the Goodreads review page of it where you can read how it's gotten high ratings and a brief synopsis. Lastly if you go to the Amazon Kindle link it gives you the first few pages for free. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/...-everyone-died |

Thanks dwalker for recommending the above. Very enjoyable books.
Dodsoldiers follows a small militia group as they try to fight for freedom against the US military. Character development is great & the events that follow are very realistic. Really a great book that should get more attention. Also includes subtle (not in your face) references of the importance of protecting our rights or suffer the whirlwind's of govt. overreach. Sword of the Caliphate I was hesitant to read, but as long as you can suspend disbelief regarding the biological agent that wrecks havoc on the world, then it becomes a great action pack gun fun adventure that becomes a page turner. |

Ugh, that is terrible! I was totally unaware. Unintended Consequences is such an iconic work. It is the only book I keep in my safe.
In the same vein (conservative/gun culture/liberty vs tyranny) I highly recommend Wrath of the Wendigo by Clay Martin. Just came out last year. It's a short novel but a total page turner and the ending does NOT disappoint. ![]() |
