Even 250 a week seems low though. I think they have multiple people making the calls. Figure in an 8 hour day, assume 5 per hour which would be 12 minutes per call, that’s 35-40 per day per employee. But I could also be way off target on those numbers so who knows.

***UPDATE*** Due to Hurricane Ian, CMP has extended the deadline for submission to 10/31/22.(originally 9/30/22)[/QUOTE]

10/31 is the new deadline? If so, that's awesome. I checked the CMP but only saw that they extended it but didn't see a date. I thought that I had just missed it, so this is great news. Thank you for the update!

Got call today around 8:30am. Selected field grade and my RNG number was 33262. Send packet on Sept 3. Be sure to have the CMP phone number saved on your phone a favorite (the phone number is in your packet you downloaded) as my spam calls get sent to silent. You can use your FSC card is a proof of participation in a marksmanship or other firearm related activity as that what prevented me in participating in previous rounds till I found about it in Reddit CAguns

Sent my packet in today. I read on their forum they haven’t listed a specific date so they can decide when to stop accepting them

Nice. Looks like they’re going through the call list pretty quickly. My number is about 1000 higher than yours so I’m hoping for a call in November.

Looked through the downloaded packet, and the only numbers I see are for faxing FFL info or reporting damage in shipping. Do you have the actual number that I should expect a call from?

I do see a customer service number on the CMP website of 256-770-4744. I just want to make sure I'm watching for the correct number (my random draw number is 34581).

Yeah Ive been waiting for approval since April. Sent a question to several admins and their help line, no response. As far as info goes, if its pistol specific you can always message the OP of the tread and ask them to post it for you. I have done that for several threads and have been buying tons of stuff from understanding members, just watch out for sketchy items, The Rem Rand type 1 slide that popped up is a good example of stay the hell away. If you want to submit your RNG for tracking purposes, you can always do so on the "Colt/ Military/ Commercial/ Vintage 1911 Historical Studies and Research" group on facebook if you have it. They have a running post with info there.

Post pics! I’m 36,343. Got a little while, hopefully enough time for my new 03 to arrive in the mail and I won’t have to wait the 10 extra days.

I had the same problem last year, eventually emailed CMPForums@thecmp.org and got it taken care of.

Lead waster: you said transfer fees are around $200. If you use one of the lists at online sites, you'll find ones cheaper. I just did one for $50 in the bay area. Here is a list where you can enter your zip to find ones to call to verify the price: https://www.gunbroker.com/ffl/index

Those places charging $200+ are ripping off the gun community, I refuse to shop at any LGS for anything if they charge above $100, and try to support the ones that charge less whenever I can. Receiving a package and doing the dros takes minutes.

Some list prices as high as $500. None of us should be supporting shops like that.

Those places charging $200+ Are possibly not even gunshop but gun businesses and don’t want to deal with doing transfers or storing firearms for 10 days, or holding onto boxes of paperwork for decades and decades.

Nice. I’m still leaning range grade. Hoping to get one of the pistols that was modified for service in the GWOT. Worst case I get one of the target guns that will likely have a sweet trigger. If I got one of those I’d replace the target adjustable sights with standard ones since I’m not a fan of adjustable sights on a combat type pistol.

I bet most of those range grade 1911s are going to end up being police returns and not GWOT mods made by SF guys.

I hope nobody is charging $200 for the actual transfer. But they do charge sales tax because CMP doesn’t. So in the end it’s about $200 transfer fee + sales tax + Dros.

I've read a lot of speculation about that on a few forums. At least one range grade that was auctioned had a stamp from a police department on it, so some are definitely police returns. But others look like they have target sights that would have no business being on a police officer's sidearm. One post on the CMP forum indicated that range grade pistols are not police returns and other posts on other forums have indicated a similarity between range grade and GWOT pistols. It's a toss up. You could get something unique or you could get something oddly modified. I wouldn't expect an MEU-SOC or M45 though. I'm still not 100% sure on what I want...there is appeal to both an original configuration and a modified configuration.

Been in Tennessee for a week, but just started my 10 day wait Sunday. Took one picture. Got Colt Slide/Remington Rand frame. I am very happy with it! Looks like the frame is from 1944. Haven't figured out much else yet

Thanks. Sounds like I won't be getting a call very soon, unless there are a lot of skipped numbers. I'm almost 3k numbers behind you. I wonder if I'll even get called in this round.

They are doing about 250 numbers a week roughly. You should be called around February if I had to guess

I'm a little bit disappointed with the program. I got my call this week and they will not ship a "Range Grade" to California. That was the model I had my heart set on, as I already have a 1943 Remington Rand. I was hoping for something hot rodded up and used in our desert wars.

So I asked for a Colt in "Service Grade". My FFL called and said they sent an Ithaca. I'm going to do paperwork this a.m., but I may just have my FFL consign it or sell it here on Calguns. It's not really what I wanted.

If anyone is interested in a trade for a Loaded Target SA 1911, Kimber Gold Match, or Colt NM/Gold Cup or Delta Elite, I would be interested.

They no longer honor requests. I really wanted a Colt and ended up with an Ithaca with a replacement slide. It was pretty disappointing. Some people have gotten mint Ithaca’s , but most have not. It’s actually well fit and a good shooter. The WW2 slides are prone to cracking but I bought an Ithaca slide anyway. The replacement slide it came with fits well and is hardened so it’s a shooter.
It’s a marine corp pistol so there is a market for that if I want to flip it. I think the best request to make is to ask for a slide and frame of same manufacturer.

Give it a minute, it may grow on you. My original plan was to flip it and try to get a used Les Baer. But now , I love it. I thought it was beat up until I saw what some others have gotten.

Try a FOIA request. Most give useless info , but some have added some value and provenance to the pistol , giving added value if you want to sell. I figured if I sold it with 2 slides I could get $2200.00. I’ve had multiple offers for cash and trades because it is a Marine Corp pistol . There is an odd market for these.

I paid $950 for a Field ( all that was offered was field and rack) and the end total was $1135.82

I'll give it a try. Turns out it is a 1942 Colt frame with an Ithaca slide. It's in temporary jail right now. It's in very good (90%-95%) condition and doesn't seem to have a bunch of arsenal stamps all over it, so it may be a keeper, but I'm still going to think it over.

If anyone is interested in a trade for a Loaded Target SA 1911, Kimber Gold Match, or Colt NM/Gold Cup or Delta Elite, I would be interested.
Did they say why they wouldn’t ship the Range Grades to California? If the frame is the gun for legal purposes and the frame was made in the 1940s, it should be C&R and no issue in this state. Either way, that’s unfortunate. Guess I’ll be going with field or service grade then.

It’s not in original military configuration. Unless they can prove the military did all those upgrades I think it loses its C&R status and at that point the roster applies. As far as the requests, that’s all it is. They have no obligation to honor your manufacturer request.

You are purchasing a surplus US Military M1911a1. You received just that. It sucks not getting the manufacturer you wanted but you received what your purchased. They say on the forums if you want something specific go to the CMP auction.

From the ATF.

Firearms automatically attain C&R status when they are 50 years old. Any firearm that is at least 50 years old, and in its original configuration, would qualify as a C&R firearm.

Also bare/stripper receivers do not qualify for C&R status.

This ties in to what has bugged me about the whole CMP 1911 process. The organization is supposed to be about getting surplus firearms in the hands of Americans so that they can improve their shooting abilities. Instead it has turned into a collector feeding frenzy. To see the griping about configurations not being ideal just kills me.
