The Resident permit gives you reciprocity in more states. Colorado, Florida, Maine, Michigan, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina only recognize resident permits. But you are correct that Arizona doesn't differentiate between resident and non-resident.

Mailed initial Application on 4/1/2022
Money Order from Western Union cashed on 5/6/2022
Called for status update 6/9/2022 had to hang up after 1hr47min had 29 callers ahead of me at 8:30am
Called back for status update 6/9/2022 on hold for 1hr32min before someone picked up for a status update. The CCW was issued back in May and it seems that I never received it so the department is sending me a new one and had to fill out a lost or stolen form. The department has said that the new license will go out within the next 14 days.

**will update as I progress**

I guess I better check on my status on Monday. I have been "waiting" for 57 days now. Actually I forgot to check on the status since I have been so busy. Cashier's check is good for 90 days.

After and hour and 40 minute hold and being the 34th caller on hold, I was told that my application was held because of something that popped up on my background check. I nervously waited for a minute or two and was told that I was good to go and that I will get my CCW mailed within a week. I asked what popped up on my background check, and the clerk said it was something on their end and I did not have to worry.

Anyone else experience the same situation? I used my California CCW as evidence that I had the necessary training and their were no issues on my background check then.

I had similar timing dates to GlockyCatt above and finally called worried that mine too had been lost in the mail

4/8/22: Mailed renewal app normal US Mail no tracking
5/6/22: USPS Money Order cashed on or slightly before this date (wasn't checking every day)
6/14/22: Called; was informed permit renewal manually cleared while on phone and will go out tomorrow.

Existing permit due to expire in a few days. Will confirm receipt when it arrives.

** I cannot believe none of you degenerates warned us about the excruciating hold music - whiny, high pitch, single note piano music endlessly repeating. Was on hold for 2:07 - initial recorded message blanked me on what number in line for call pick-up I started at.

Those “degenerates” probably have wives and have learned to tune out excruciating, high-pitched, whiny noise.

Mine was pretty comical. My AZ expired January 25.

Dec 4: mailed renewal packet and crickets.
Early January: email and learn they're severely backlogged and are processing in order received.
Early March: email again and same reply. They don't see my renewal.
Late April: call and finally get somebody on line. They have no record of ever receiving my packet even though it shows received on my end. Tell me since it's more than 60 days out renewal no longer possible and I need to start over - apply for a new permit and to send a photocopy of my old permit as substitute for training cert.

Get prints rolled, get USPS money order with no expiration, send new packet beginning May and confirm their receipt of it once again via mail tracking.

Yesterday in my mail box were two envelopes from AZ DPS:
1- My "new" AZ permit
2- My "original" renewal application and fee I sent in on 12/4 with a yellow sticky note attached to it that read, "Duplicate Application and Fee"

Your results may vary

Default You gotta call...

I submitted my application back in January 2022. My money order was cashed about a month ago, but I thought they'd process it when they got to it. After reading some posts here that advised calling them, I called just now.

After a hold of about 30 minutes, someone answered and I asked for a status update on my app. She took my name and DOB and put me on hold. Came back after a few minutes and said everything was in order and it will be mailed to me today.

Thanks for the advice!

-Mike

Wow, that is comical

What are you going to do with the money order? Return it change the payment name or cash it? I am curious in case I run into the same thing in Utah or FL I wrote the payment name in ink.

You take the MO and your copy to the Post Office and cash it.

Was that turnaround achieved without a telephone call follow up on your part?

They must know something is coming like the SCOTUS ruling! So the Dinero matters before CA is forced on the map.

I called last week and they said my file was in background check. They couldn't tell me how much longer but does anyone have any ideas? I just got my CA CCW so there should not be anything that holds me up.

First, congratulations on receipt of your renewal permit....

But, out of curiosity, which degenerates do you refer?

Surely you are not implying that everyone on this Board is a degenerate....

With the numerous delays in 2020, it took me a total of five months to get my California permit.

But with Arizona, I read and reread the directions like three times before I sent everything in, and it took like 5 to 6 weeks.

I think it’s possible that everyone might be processed a little bit differently.

Mailed mine and my husbands renewals on Jan 20 something.
Postal Money Orders were cashed on the same day.
My renewal arrived mid-May. No sign of my husbands.
Emailed the CCW June 1st department after several failed attempts at calling.
They replied today his CCW will go out tomorrow.

I just called. After spending 2 hours on hold listening to the same song over and over and over, I got a nice lady who reported.

1. My renewal was logged in on 4/28. (I mailed it in mid-February) so it sat there that long before being logged in.
2. They're backlogged with about 28,000 permits/renewals.
3. No clue when I'll get it.

Fortunately, I got my Utah permit renewed already, which covers the same states + Washington. I'm not planning on going anyplace where I need it anyway, so I can just wait.

It doesn't say "Non-Resident" but it has my out-of-state address on it, making it obvious.

I just looked, and that's correct. I think when I got them the first time 5 years ago both covered NM. But I could be wrong.

I mainly got these so I could carry in Texas (my dad lived there before he passed away) and I go to Northern Nevada to off-road and help a friend teach off-road classes and run a GPS rally. I prefer concealed carry because some of the people in the classes get over-excited if they see a firearm.

If I ever drive through NM I'll probably have the AZ one by then.

Thanks for pointing this out.

There are currently 10 states + D.C. that DO NOT honor any other state permits! They are: CA; CT; HI; IL; MD; MA; NJ; NY; OR; RI, + D.C.

So that leaves a potential of 40 states for your Arizona, Florida or Utah permit. Of those 40 states, the following states DO NOT HONOR these three permits as follows:

Arizona: Minnesota and Washington
Florida: Minnesota, Nevada, Washington (*Wisconsin)
Utah: Minnesota, New Mexico, South Carolina

Now if any of these permits are non-resident to you, then you also need to factor that in regarding permit recognition!

*Wisconsin DOES NOT honor the CWFL issued to Florida residents! The Non-Resident CWFL is honored!

I called two weeks ago and the person I spoke with said that my permit would be mailed the next day and I should get it in about a week. Should I wait a little longer or should I call them again?

Thank you, sir or ma'am! I didn't focus on your posts because they didn't describe in vivid color how ear-piercingly annoying the music becomes when it's playing over and over from a phone on the desk when one is trying to get something done. But my cheers to you for giving a warning

I was told my permit would go out the next day, but unlike you was told that I should not worry or contact them again because the mail process might take up to 30 days. I did receive the renewed permit 7 days after my call. And I would not voluntarily wait on hold for an hour+ again unless I was very concerned. You may feel differently. Just sharing my recent experience.

Remember the holidays and the SCOTUS rulings caused some delays and liberals in costumes of blood and tears. After day 20 plan to be on hold for 1 hour since everyone in CA will try to get the CA permit.

Just sharing my recent experience.
I will wait. Thank you.

Dammit. Forgot I mailed in my renewal app back in Aug 2021 since my permit was (did) expire in late Nov 2021. They cashed my money order in September, and I just got busy and forgot about this until just recently.

I called and after waiting 2 hrs 24 minutes on the phone, they said I would need to reapply for a new permit and resubmit everything all over, along with another $60 money order for the new application. When I asked about the renewal money order they cashed back in September, they basically said I was SOL on that.

I mailed mine back in February. I was hoping I wouldn't have to do anything other than mailing it in. I called. I was told there was a hold, but because I called, the hold is released, and it would be mailed out tomorrow. So, are they requiring people to call in to get approvals?

I called in last week. Nothing said about a hold. Just a backlog and no idea when I'd get the permit.
