No need. I’ll be dragging it behind the car.

Like hammers knives are tools. Get the right one for the task and it will go smooth.

Just try using a 3 pound sledge hammer to instead of a roofing hammer while doing roof work.

Even just a camp knife is not so clear. What are the various activities to be done at camp? Likely need at least 3 knives. Better to have and not need than otherwise.

FYI I'll take a generator, espresso machine and waffle iron camping because I can. Plenty of room for a couple knives.

If the said knife is only for cooking then the Kershaw Blade trader is what we went camping with. We still have one or two sets.

The Messermeister Petite is my goto camping cooking knife. They have a number of different models in that line.

You might want to check out Victorinox, the Swiss Army knife company. They make a rugged line of kitchen knives very suitable for camping.

I haven't read this entire thread -

WEELLLLL -

Do you need to shave or split small pieces of wood for staking, fire starting, cutting cordage, ETC.
Are you going to clean and scale fish?
Are you going to Prep / skin small game?
Is it for food prep only?

Some designs will excel at some of these tasks but you wish you had something different for others.

A well designed hatchet around 14" and pocket or waist knife with a stone for keeping them razor sharp will do everything above.
I carry a folding Silky saw also for processing small wood for fires. 10 times faster than trying to cut though larger branches with a hatchet or axe for fire wood.

Car camping - A set of kitchen knives included and anything else I can fit in my truck.

No screws in the handle so it's easier to clean and no food gets trapped. This would be a cooking knife and not used for any other purpose.

Jeepergeo brought up a good point. I'd like to buy a us made knife if possible. The knife I was about to buy says Swedish steel but I assume it's made else where (Mora garberg).
CRKT Hissatsu… if you are just cutting.

Moras are great, especially for their price point.

For me, I’ve been getting rid of everything and using Esee knives exclusively. They fit great in my hand and have a no nonsense warranty (I haven’t needed to use it yet). Happy with the 1095 steel blades.

Started with an Esee-4 as my all around camp knife but have switched to an Esee-3. Been going back and forth between a serrated and a non serrated but that’s just personal preference. Hope this helps any.

*edited to add I use it for equal parts food prep, wood processing (kindling), and animal cleaning.

Just a little update after taking my buck knife camping the past 5 days. The blade was surprisingly sharp when I first got it. No need to see a sharpener beforehand. It did well at whittling wood for kindling and cutting thru tomatoes. Still kept a decent sharpiness after all that use. Overall happy with the purchase.

My EDC is always Benchmade, I like a good fixed blade when hunting or camping.
A 6” fixed blade and a Leatherman covers about everything
Pictured is a Winkler belt knife and a Esse 6

For cooking in camp you want a thin knife.

Personally I just put a blade cover on my 10 inch Sabatier and bring that for cooking duties (if I'm not backpacking).

If I wanted something specific, I think Victorinox makes a 6 inch chef knife, that with a blade cover would be great.

If not that then an Old hickory butcher knife would do well.

For picnicking I bring an Opinel, I've used that knife as my primary kitchen knife for a month at a time when traveling for work.

For a camp knife - really like the Mk1 Navy w/ the re-profiled pommel and Sno-Sealed handle.
