just keep it as-is (featureless) so you can use standard capacity magazines and change them at will. adding a pistol grip or flash hider is going to convert your rifle to an AW.

I agree, keep it featureless. The only thing I would do is get some bushings for the gas block so you aren't throwing brass 50 feet. Alot of folks swear by recoil buffers fore and aft and Accu-Struts as well, both dead easy and cheap. Tech Sights used to be preferred, but I'm not current on what's available. Bedding helps a bunch, but then you have a "fragile" gun,not really what you want from a Mini. Accept the 3ish MOA and have fun.

If by “tactical” you’re referring to features such as flash hider, collapsible stock, pistol grip, etc.,etc. Then you’ll need a mag lock. There’s a company that makes a mag lock for the mini-14 but I can’t remember who. If none of this sounds appealing, keep it featureless and enjoy standard capacity magazines.

You have to shorten the barrel too.

If you are in the Soviet Province?

Just shorten and square the stock by an inch, add a TechSights rear aperture (not shown), and 1-1/4" QD sling swivels to accommodate a USGI (Garand) web sling (in process).

If you're in SoCal, you can hit up Randall (AR15Barrels) to properly shorten and thread your Mini. Not sure but I think he'll even move the front sight back.

IMO the pistol grip, although ideal, isn't that necessary to make it tactical. A shorter barrel, muzzle break or comp, sling, weapon light, and LPVO or red dot will go a long way making it more tactical in application. If you have SCM or "freedom week mags" even better. For looks, the right cerakote job can make it look as "tacticool" and even sicker than any typical Tapcoed-out Mini.

Better rear sight (Tech), barrel strut, and muzzle weight via a brake. Did wonders for mine with accuracy. That's a stainless with baked on enamel BBQ paint. Holds up pretty well and when it finally wears too much I will hit it with some more paint and bake it in the oven at a low heat for a couple hours. Been this way for several years at least.

Before you go about swapping parts out, you should refer to the flow chart on this page to be sure you are keeping it featureless...

I have shortened and threaded lots of Mini14's.
As long as you keep the overall length over 30" and keep the rifle in a featureless configuration, you can thread the barrel or even shorten the barrel to 16" or even below 16" if you perm attach a muzzle brake which gets the barrel back over 16".
Muzzle threads or muzzle brakes are NOT a feature.
Flash suppressors are a feature.

The only mods I've made to my Mini are a Hogue Overmolded Stock, a set of Tech Sights, and a Holosun red dot on the pic rail. You don't need a muzzle brake to shoot 5.56, and getting one just for the aesthetics isn't worth the money.

If you really want something more tactical, I'd suggest an M1A Scout or SOCOM model.

Put a Red Dot Optic and Sling on it and change out the Gas Bushing for a smaller one or put an Adjustable Gas Block on it from Accurate Systems Inc.

This is what you can get in the way of Accuracy from one of the newer guns. IE: 580 series and beyond. See Pics Just over 1" at 100 yards with a Red Dot Optic and my standard .223 Reloads.

Older Pencil Barrel Guns probably won't deliver that level of accuracy without Major Mods.

This gun is one of my Preferred 3 gun rifles and when I can clean a 28 target stage with 29 shots, it speaks to the usefulness of these guns. These guns are a very viable way around CA BS and anyone who thinks they are some how obsolete or not the equal of an AR is really missing the point. They have just as much firepower as any AR and whereas the Accuracy isn't always as good as shown below, it is always adequate for intended uses. Most generic AR's won't shoot any better and informed people know this.
