Maybe it was a Milpitas FD "Fire Enforcement Officer"? I guess that's a relatively new thing for them?

I know a couple of Cal Fire fire marshals and, yes, their IDs do say "peace officer" on them; but, they don't do any LE work. I think the peace officer status is a formality since they have to enforce the fire code. A few weeks ago, I had a Cal Fire "fire cop" show up to a large incident. He was wearing a full-blown tac vest, weapons and everything. I'm assuming he was a Cal Fire arson investigator or something; but, I'd never seen one in tac gear before.
