"Rods or snakes?"
What ever she wants to call it is fine with me

But seriously, I use both. Once in a bluemoon I give my barrels a deep cleaning with a rod and patches.

Yes, when ever possible, to prevent possibly damaging the crown of your barrel you want to run the rod from the breach end. If the firearm doesn't allow for this you can buy a rod guide to help protect the crown.

I have a couple of guns that can only be rod cleaned from the muzzle end, I just have to be prepared for a longer cleaning session with lots of paper towels and q-tips on those days. Most of the time I just run a snake through it and clean the action and put it away until I'm in the mood for a deeper cleaning. LOL, remember when you used to love clean guns?
