SoCal Monthly C&R Shoot at WEGC - Sunday February 10th

The next monthly C&R shoot is coming up on Sunday, February 10th

Everyone is welcome!

The range is private, but we usually have enough members to take new people as guests. If you are thinking of going and are not a member, please post here, we'll try to make sure we can get you signed in (cost for guests is $10 for the whole day)

Range information:

Directions to the range:

How about a friendly axis vs allies rifle competition again? Everyone gets 5 shots at a steel target at 100 yards, 2 from the bench, 2 standing, 1 kneeling, with a 30 second time limit. What do you guys think?

Winning team gets bragging rights for the month :)

Hope to see you there!

EirikurDC 01-26-2019 3:44 PM

I’m 100% interested. I have a small collection of WW2 rifles and a few inter-war and wartime pistols.

Beetle Bailey 01-26-2019 5:07 PM

I'm in! Dunno yet which rifles I will bring, but I will bring one for each side so I can fill in for whichever team is short.

Ora Serrata 01-26-2019 5:26 PM

Not sure if I can make it this month, but I'm gonna try.

Old Marine 01-26-2019 5:44 PM

Have to figure out which of my rifles qualify as C&R.....

Lower range?

Beetle Bailey 01-26-2019 5:55 PM

If it's older than 50 years old, it is a C&R.

devilslock84 01-26-2019 7:07 PM

In as usual and bringing the steel.

Lower range, we'll be on the benches towards the end, a lot of us get there by 8:00am. Stop by any bench with an old rifle on it and ask about the shoot, we'll get you introduced to the regulars

Enfield47 01-26-2019 8:16 PM

I'm hoping to make it out. It will all depend on how ready our house is for showing.

huntingsocal 01-26-2019 9:52 PM

I should be able to make it

Jimja I like the idea we talked about adding a stripper clip reload into the competition

Think that means only Mosin......

But will still be cool to see other stuff.

Thanks, I am a limited member there so I only know the lowervrange.

Looking forward to this event.

I should be able to make this shoot, I'm back from being out of the country for the past seven weeks. :)

Black Majik 01-31-2019 9:32 AM

I'm in...

RayPDA 01-31-2019 4:21 PM

I have only been to one event and it was years ago; I’d like to be on the tentative list please.

Will represent Swiss and Swedes, with an old savage 99 for fun

the_tunaman 01-31-2019 4:39 PM

Damn... I’ve got to get in on these, now that I’m back in So Cal! I’ve got many of the countries represented... US, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, Russia, and Finland.

Unfortunately I’ll be traveling that Sunday. Hopefully I can start meeting up in April - I didn’t realize that WEGC was close until my friend/neighbor was talking about it just this past week.

saki302 02-05-2019 8:38 PM

Looking at what happened to the creek this past Sunday (range closed), we may be better off postponing a week or doing it next month. It's raining saturday.

Syntax Error 02-07-2019 9:26 AM

Do we know if the range will be closed again this weekend? Looks like it might rain again this Sunday, not sure if that's enough for the creek to get flooded though.

As of right now weather.com shows lytle creek as early morning showers at 60%.

Not sure what that'll do to creek though if the runoff will make it unpassable.
If it was like last week the creek was high and flowing pretty strong

Syntax Error 02-07-2019 2:17 PM

New post on their forum - creek is still flowing with deep depth. I would be in favor of postponing the shoot 1-2 weeks given the weather situation as Dave suggested. Would also be a good opportunity to take advantage of the snow in the mountains if you are so inclined. :)

I am in favor of postponing the shoot for one week.

saki302 02-07-2019 7:10 PM

One or two weeks works for me. 2 weeks is better.

Enfield47 02-07-2019 7:51 PM

Unfortunately I'm not going to make this months shoot. Hope to see you all in March.

Syntax Error 02-08-2019 6:44 AM

I'm in favor of postponing two weeks. I may have something work related over the weekend in one week's time personally.

Beetle Bailey 02-08-2019 7:10 AM

Okay by me.

:twoweeks:

Ora Serrata 02-08-2019 7:40 AM

Yeah I definitely can't make it next week but I may be able to get there in two weeks.

huntingsocal 02-08-2019 7:44 AM

Looks like it is supposed to be raining this Sunday AND next Sunday so I'm up for the next clear Sunday

devilslock84 02-08-2019 6:27 PM

Cant do next week or two so i will come up next month hopefully with new toys if they come in on time.

Syntax Error 02-08-2019 6:28 PM

I'm down for two weeks from now - 2/24 :)

SunsetIE 02-08-2019 6:29 PM

Im out if its next sunday, ill be shooting trap at prado

saki302 02-08-2019 11:02 PM

I'd be in for 2/17 or 2/24

Old Marine 02-09-2019 3:15 AM

Open to a dry Sunday.....

EirikurDC 02-10-2019 2:44 PM

I’ll be out of town on the 17th but the 24th works for me.

Side note: does anyone have a good source of 7.7 Jap? I’d like to bring my type 99 out but I am running dangerously low on ammo.

Your best bet would be to reload using Prvi Partizan cases. I don't think Prvi makes actual loaded 7.7 Jap ammo. The Precision Cartridges Inc stuff (which is made using Grafs which is just rebranded Prvi brass anyways) is well-known to be trash ammunition.

saki302 02-10-2019 11:00 PM

From their Facebook report the 24th may be a safer bet.

The creek flow washed out some of the ramps, and the thing will need to be regraded to allow lower cars to pass.

Syntax Error 02-11-2019 9:40 AM

Yeah I think 24th would be better. Gives the range time to repair the road leading up if there indeed was damage from the recent rainstorms, plus it looks like it's gonna rain some more later this week.

Syntax Error 02-18-2019 9:49 PM

Might be raining again this weekend and according to range office posts they can't fix the road leading up to the range until the creek subsides, and the creek won't subside until the rain dies down.

Perhaps we might want to think about an alternate venue for just this month in case rain decides to poke in again by this weekend?

Sevonic 02-19-2019 3:18 PM

Looking at the forecast, it looks like it'll finally be clear this Sunday!
