Best prices on Target Loads

Who has the best prices on 2 3/4" #7 target loads? Getting into trap shooting and its easy to burn up 100 shells in no time. Thanks!

L4D 07-08-2019 1:34 PM

Walmart

ysr_racer 07-08-2019 1:40 PM

Most places won't let you use #7 unless it's steel. Of it's lead, #7.5, #8, #9.

Yeah, Wal-Mart.

Still.

Walmart, once they start selling ammo again. Usually $25.00 for 100 rounds and when on sale, $20.00.

edgerly779 07-08-2019 1:46 PM

I have 3/1/8 12 gauge if ammo sale section.

whutsup40 07-08-2019 1:46 PM

Wally mart!!!

ysr_racer 07-08-2019 1:50 PM

Has anyone suggested Wal-Mart?

whutsup40 07-08-2019 2:26 PM

I know Dick's sporting goods is a sore subject to some people, But they do have some good prices on occasion. lighting don't strike me now!!! lol

meno377 07-08-2019 2:27 PM

Remington Game loads WERE under $5.00 at several LGS and Dicks the past couple of months.

mwr 07-08-2019 3:39 PM

If no has mentioned Wal Mart yet, then I will, you should also consider Phillips Wholesale.

whutsup40 07-08-2019 4:01 PM

Phillips is good for reloading supplies, But he does not sell cheap ammo!!

Scratch705 07-08-2019 4:16 PM

if you want more than just estate or remington, you will have to go online and have it shipped to your local FFL or if you have a 03ffl +coe then you can order and ship straight to your own home.

whutsup40 07-08-2019 4:40 PM

Really don't think brand matters if your just shooting some clays, get some 7 1/2 or 8 shot and call it a day!!

prc77 07-08-2019 7:36 PM

I shoot Rem Gun Club, bought 20 flats at $52.90 to our club... Dick's has them on sale cheaper than that. time to time

*_* 07-08-2019 7:53 PM

Last month at Walmart, Winchester/Federal 100 count was $21.48/$21.74. Not sure if there are any rebate.

Winchester AA's (some like them better) and I think there is a rebate now, but more expensive at $7.87 per 25 count.

CWL 07-08-2019 8:22 PM

Federal is running a .50/box rebate for their range/sporting ammo up to $25 total. Ends in August 31.

beetle 07-08-2019 8:43 PM

buy premium AA ammo (4 box 100 pack) at walmart and send in for the $2/box rebate (good until sept)

$7.37 - $2.00 rebate = $5.37/box for AA. that's a steal

Thefeeder 07-08-2019 8:55 PM

><

^^^^^^^ +1

The variety of different loads available with AA's is unmatched

L84CABO 07-08-2019 8:58 PM

Wally World. But get the Federal bulk pack not the Winchester.

Sputnik 07-08-2019 10:44 PM

I stocked up on the Herters target loads from Cabela's while I could. They were the least expensive and have given me no problems at all.

Have not tried the box that I got, so what's the difference?

Winchesters stick in every gun I own. Over/under, semi auto, it doesn't matter.

*_* 07-09-2019 8:01 AM

Thanks!
Darn, I will save that one box for the newbies I take out, lol.

AA's or the Walmart stuff?

Surprised the German one lets you put a couple in there

whutsup40 07-09-2019 3:25 PM

Herter's is really good ammo and i wish i would have stocked up more also, I have shot all of it except my 20 gauge.

Not every shell jams (most of them don't), but sometimes a couple do. Even if you have no jams, I wouldn't buy them again if I were you.
We are talking about the 4 box 100 round pack from Walmart labeled Winchester Universal.

If you bought a single box of Winchester (25 rounds), you most likely will not have an issue.

ysr_racer 07-09-2019 4:51 PM

Yes, Winchester Universal sticks in my gun.

Ducky's Dad 07-09-2019 5:08 PM

I'm pretty sure Herter's shells are history since the Bass Pro acquisition. Are Herter's back? And last time I checked with Cabela's, they would not ship ammo to this screwed up state, not even to an 01 FFL. Has that changed?

whutsup40 07-09-2019 6:23 PM

have not checked recently! I reload my shotgun shells, I just bought all that stuff as extra, just to have.

Unforgiven 07-09-2019 9:35 PM

There is a reason the top shooters shoot quality ammo. Itís better. There are few shells worse than Federal bulk pack.

*_* 07-09-2019 10:10 PM

Cool, got it!

The Winchester 100 pack at $21.48 are these Super-Target : https://winchester.com/Products/Ammu...l/Super-Target

That is my favorite ammo. 12 gauge, 1oz., #9, low recoil(Superlight), and standard 1 1/8th oz, #7.5 and #8.. Functions perfectly in my semi-autos, whereas European shells fail to eject sometimes. Universals are just harsh in every way.

The Super-Target 2 piece hulls take the same tapered hull wads and reload recipes as AAs single piece hulls. I have reloaded the hulls a few times and even though they work the steel is hard on my reloader dies.

W.R.Buchanan 07-10-2019 8:28 AM

Yes Walmart is the correct answer! $21.74 for either Federal or Winchester. Same price in Vegas and everywhere else I've been. I always look at ammo when we go to a Walmart while my wife buys groceries..

I only get the Federals because they have a nice radius on the front of the hull and Winchesters are flared so they stick going in and coming back out.

They will run in my A5 but unloading the gun the last one always sticks in the end of the magazine and I have to fish it out. This is a PITB! Feds don't have this problem.

Sounds like a spring problem. Clean the mag tube and when the spring is out stretch it some. A drop of TriFlow inside the mag tube seems to work for me as well.

my mag tube has never been used due to trap shooting. the range doesn't allow you to pre-load for safety reasons.

that is unless you are shooting doubles of course, then you can load 1 shell into the tube

True. One in the barrel and one in the tube for doubles. Is a rule at every shotgun range I have ever been to. And I never store my A5 loaded. Sure do love the speed load feature on it.

Nah, the Winchester shells are flared out on the end. They are over crimped and they omitted the finishing step from their loading process on the cheap ammo, and they are noticeably Flared out on the end. Here's a pic of one that is flared out on only one side, and another that you can see where the over crimping started to buckle the hull slightly Most are flared all the way around. Every shell in that box was done the same way. Poor QC!

They still shoot they just don't feed and eject as well as the Federals which are exactly the same price at Wally's

They only hang up when the gun is manually unloaded. They feed OK when cycling normally primarily due to the violence of the process in the A5.

The Federal Hulls have a nice radius on the front end and they never hang up.

I figured this out in my last Shotgun Class at Front Sight I kept having to fish the last round out of the ejection port with the Winchesters so I bought a 100 round box of Feds and had no problems with them at all..

Anyone who reloads shotshells will tell you these are simply over crimped. A simple adjustment to the crimp die would solve this and nobody would ever know the difference.

One of the things I looked for with my Roll Crimping tools was a nice radius on the end and a Taper on the sides. Rounds crimped this way run perfect. see pic with one Fed Factory slug and a Fed hull I reloaded with a slug Notice the taper on both hulls.

If you look at the last station on a Pacific/Hornaday DL366 You will see a tool that tapers and radius' the nose of the hull as a final step. This is exactly what I'm talking about.

I'm not sure if they're gone for good but when I just looked there are no target loads, only field loads in Herters. Target loads are OOS. I haven't been keeping up with this since, as you say, I can't order any more anyway.
I still have six or seven cases and I don't use that much shooting cowboy matches so it'll last a little while. Maybe some creative thinking when I get to the last case?
