How to Read Norinco Type 54 Serial Numbers
 
Got one from Aim Surplus, the serial number on the frame and slide match, it reads "19 02 8067" please let me know if I get it right year=1954+19=1973?

As with the Type53 and the Type56's(AK and SKS) the numerical serial prefixes indicate Nth year of production, with the respective model year designations being the first years of production.

A serial prefix of 19 indicates 19th year of Type54 production or 1972.

The remaining numbers indicate the number of arms produced to that point.

So type54 with the serial number 19028067 = 28,067th type54 produced in the 19th year pf type54 production.
