Anyone ever build multiple slides for the same pistol?

I've got a pelican case full of extra slides.

trigger945 05-14-2019 4:36 PM

Thatís actually smart imo. Kinda like having multiple AR uppers for different purposes.

Whatís most important is that those slides serve the purpose that you need then to serve. Enjoy!

BenzBen 05-14-2019 4:39 PM

I am also guilty. Glock 22 frame with 35 slide and 9mm conversion barrel and also a 17 slide. I just switch out the ejector to maintain reliability with switching from .40 to 9mm.

LEGOís for adults.

I'd actually really like to do this with my 1911, but I feel like it would be too much work to put a 9mm or 38 super upper on my 45.

Robert1234 05-14-2019 6:10 PM

Usually more expensive to build a slide than buy a complete gun. Especially Glocks, where you can buy a G17 or G19 with a GSSF coupon for $425.00

plumbum 05-14-2019 6:17 PM

I’m of the, “more guns, less accessories” camp - polish a Glock up all you want, it ain’t gonna make me a better shot ;)

Pretty badass with the optic plate I gotta say!

Legend says if you polish a glock enough, it becomes a 1911!

Answer to the title of this thread:

No, because I can afford buying multiple full fledged firearms instead.

Not trying to hijack this thread....but it can be done...

I’ll be the first to admit I got lucky with mine.

I was going to clean 2 of mine last week. A Dan Wesson CCO .45 and Dan Wesson Guardian 9mm/.38S, and I thought, why not see if the slides will interchange... Perfect fit.......
Both of the Dan Wesson’s have a ramped barrel.

Guardian with complete CCO top end and CCO with complete Guardian top end
https://i1152.photobucket.com/albums...sv1wycf2q.jpeg

Even the slide to ejector was a decent fit...
https://i1152.photobucket.com/albums...sqnwjeoxh.jpeg

It can also be done with a standard barrel. I converted my ATI FX45K from .45 to 9mm a few years ago. Again, I’ll admit I got lucky. The Remsport 9mm slide fit the frame without any fitting, so I can easily switch back to .45 if I want to without worrying about a sloppy fit

You really are lucky! I was under the impression that the ejector had to be swapped if going from 45 to 9mm?

Iím with these guys. I donít have any extra uppers for my Glocks. For a couple $100 more than the slide, you can buy a whole gun. Granted, I donít upgrade my guns like you do. I always run them stock. The most Iíll do is get the slide milled for an RMR.

71MUSTY 05-15-2019 2:49 AM

I have extra slides and barrels for several of my handguns. Some as other caliber conversions, some as future replacement parts because the price was right at the time.

But

Basically they all sit in a drawer and hold a cabinet down.

9mmContagion 05-15-2019 5:03 AM

No, I hate letting money sit. I just buy a new gun. Same thing with AR uppers. The upper is the expensive part, just build a whole new gun

theLBC 05-15-2019 5:43 AM

i have an RX (optic) slides for my P226 and P229 sigs to go with the std iron sight slides.

my eyes are getting old

Yes. Very lucky. The Dan Wessonís fit on each otherís ejector just fine. On the ATI, I did switch to a 9mm ejector.

But then you still need to buy the slide you want for it

Yeah, if you're one of those cats willing to put a $1,000.00 slide in a $400.00 gun, my statement is irrelevant.

I see those guns in the classified section all the time. They don't sell fast.

But hey, your money, spend it how you see fit.

Not me, was just saying that to do what the OP is doing, even with another gun he would still have to buy the slide if thats what he wanted.
You sound upset at my response and i apologize, and you are right, your statement was irrelevant.
Selling the gun is not what the thread is about.

Seriously, what about my post gives you the impression I was upset?

Or that I care at all how you spend your money?

Was it the part where I say "your money, spend it how you see fit"?

I care little how anyone spends their own money. Its entertaining to see, it drives the economy, and it doesn't affect me in any way.

And thanks for noting the lack of relevancy my response to an irrelevant statement in an irrelevant thread on a marginally relevant forum. You're so above it all.:D

Itís funny how this community is split down the middle. One side of us is here to have fun enjoy our hobby practice train try new things. The other side are people that seem way set in their ways and have to slam everything they donít agree with. Iíve got all different types of hand guns all for different uses and applications some just to collect too. Ego can really keep you from growing and progressing. Can also keep people from wanting to converse with you. This forum is for fun enthusiasts we are here for each other. Donít have anything nice to say? Thatís cool keep that negativity in your life and out of mine. As for me Iím gonna keep buying my adult legos and having fun ha ha.

Yeah, I’d just buy a whole gun. Plus I wouldn’t trust my competition gun for hd. Too many rounds threw it and I like to tweak triggers and springs which isn’t the best for reliability.

Haven't built a second slide. I did just buy a CZ Tactical Sport that was a 9mm but also came with a complete 40 cal upper with adjustable sight. Have to get a holster and mag pouches for it.

That it is. Indeed.

You can put thousands of $ in accessories on a $400 plastic gun not wanting to beleive that IT and all IT's look alikes are just practical and economy grade weapons made to be purchased by the various departments and gov agencies. Why, because they provide/issue the cheapest thing that would do the job.
So you can put all the accessories of a Formula car (including the air foil) on a Gremlin! and it is still a Gremlin.

That said, OP's guns are very nice and in good taste.
My question is if you spend that much on a Zev'ed out slide and the RMR and ...., why not just buy separate frames? Poly frames are relatively inexpensive compared to some of the other work.
