What EDC knifes do you recommend

I’m looking for a small/medium EDC knife for every day carry. What do you guys recommend? I use it to open boxes, cut duck tape, strings etc. I need something that would keep an edge and don’t want to spend a fortune.

Willing to go on eBay for the vintage stuff ;)

Mini-Griptillian.

Dont buy from ebay buy from a reputable dist like knife center or blade hq.

Spyderco Para 3 or Native 5 are great. Kershaw makes a lot of good budget options too.

axhoaxho 03-31-2021 9:34 PM

Have been using the Spyderco Delica 4 for many years.

It's lightweight, comfortable to carry (Injection-molded FRN handle,) and with a
VG10 stainless steel blade.

Came with different colors (if that matters,) pretty balance, and is not too pricey.

Kershaw Blur. Been carrying the Tanto serrated version daily since 2011. About $65 or so.

steadyrock 03-31-2021 9:36 PM

I’m really happy with my Kershaw Leek especially for the price. It’s not a Benchmade, but I don’t need a Benchmade and it surely didn’t cost Benchmade money. I use it for all the same things you mention, slim and the spring assist is great.

Need price range...

The cheapest knife I occasionally carry is Sog Aegis.. great all around knife, sized in range mentioned in OP... best bang for buck knife I have (I have dozens)

Typically I carry one of several ZTs or Benchmade... good quality, but maybe not bang for buck.

FWIW, I lost an Aegis once - and bought another... the relevance is, it's worth buying again and cheap enough that if you lose it, it's no big deal... my other knives (200-300) would suck to lose :o, ... almost lost a zr0560 once though- left it on truck bed cover... was still there after 10 miles

Another Kershaw Leek guy here. Comes crazy sharp out of the box. Not meant for heavy duty but will easily do the things you mention.

One of the best super steels out right now.

Garbcollector 03-31-2021 10:54 PM

Go to blade hq you should be able to find something you'll like they carry a ton of knives. I currently edc a civiv folder with d2 steel its a relatively inexpensive knife around $50 bucks, so if it gets lost or i break the tip no great loss. There's a lot of great manufacturers out there......

L84CABO 03-31-2021 11:02 PM

Here's a great little knife. D2 steel and VERY reasonably priced. Note that on Amazon they seem to cycle through the colors. Right now it's the green one. If you want one of the other colors, you'll have to wait a bit or check and see if you can find it elsewhere.

Spyderco FTW

I’m partial to the thumbhole

acaligunner 03-31-2021 11:05 PM

The Spyderco Sage 5 ~ In sv 30 blade steel.

The knife has a 3" blade, weighs 2.5 oz and has a really good handle with the option of a finger choil.

The blade is also razor thin sharp which may not be good for prying, but cuts deep and is razor sharp.

About $110 dollars, but like anything else will last for many years.

..

Garbcollector 03-31-2021 11:13 PM

Just try and buy from a reputable dealer and stay away from Amazon or eBay. I bought a Spyderco off of Amazon once and im pretty sure it was a knock off the quality was suspect

The delica is a nice option for around $75 dollars 3" VG 10 steel, spydie hole, and stell liners and around 2.5 oz.

The endura is the larger version and has a 4" VG 10 blade and the same features as above for around $85 and weighs in at around 3 oz.

I recently got a zt0223 with that steel (20CV)... the steel gets high praise.

My 1970's Schrade Sharpfinger with 3 1/2 blade.

In case you need to street brawl with a biker, carve a pumpkin, gut and skin a deer, open uncle sugas covid check or pandemic stoop packages from Chinazon.

No need for fancy schmacy alphanumerical polysyllabic enigma encoded steels either.

Just good ol' 1080 carbon steel and Dupont stagalon handles with a lanyard whole to spruce it up a notch.

Seriously, Check out the Honeybadger on Amazon. Hell of a knife and won't break the bank. No joke.

357magnum 04-02-2021 12:31 PM

Spyderco Para 3, Benchmade Mini Presidio II both are over $100.00
Kershaw Cryo, Civivi Elementum, SOG Terminus XR all under $60.00
These are all good sturdy knives, no delicate tips to snap off easily.
All are good weight, not to heavy for everyday carry and will get the job done.
Buy from a reputable source such as Blade HQ, KnifeCenter and several others
Good luck and enjoy.

drunktank 04-02-2021 2:45 PM

I use a knife on a constant basis and admittedly abuse them . That said, I’ve switch to Esee. For EDC, I run either the Izula or Esee-3. 1095 carbon steel works fine fir me. Outstanding warranty & made in USA. No rust issues either.

Going to second this one here, with the caveat that I use the stainless handled version of it with the sabre grind straight edge blade. I like the heavier handle for quick deployment. I carry mine tip down, blade forward, right hand pocket. I can get that knife out and ready to use faster than my OTF auto. The VG10 is not as hard as some of the newer steels, but holds an edge decently and is easier to bring back to a keen edge with fewer strokes than the harder steels. C11P is the model number i believe.

My favorite at the moment is my SOG SEAL XR, but that might change as soon as I receive my Spyderco Shaman Z-Wear.

I have one sitting on my desk with next to me right now... great knife! but not very practical for EDC - I don't carry it, but it's a great knife.
