Howa 6.5 Creedmoor

hi guys.. I’ve been itching for a 6.5 for quite a while now.

Been waiting for the Tikka Tac A1 to go on sale.

Debating if I should get this Howa 6.5 or get the Rem700 6.5 with scope used at the LGS for under $700?

No too crazy about the paint job on the howa, but figured could get it painted over later on.
Also figured maybe this would work on this howa chassis to make the stock fold? https://mdttac.com/us_en/mdt-folding-stock-adapter.html

Thoughts?

You're saving several hundred. Howa $1300 + stock folding thing $150~ = ~$1450

I would say just get the Tikka Tac A1 ~$1600-$1800

What's worst is saving a few hundred and not getting what you want.

At Piru range with the Tikka 6.5

Otherwise go budget if you just want to shoot 6.5 creedmoor with still decent results.

Get a Tikka CTR and a chassis for it. That will enable you to use common AICS compatible mags. Plus give you all the benefits of a chassis. The combination should be as cheap or cheaper than the TAC-A1.

Or if you want gnat's *** accuracy, get a t3x and put a high quality barrel on it.

The scope on the howa package rifle is a throw-away so plan on getting a better scope.
What specific 700 does your local gun store have?
What scope does it come with?
Those are big factors in determining how good that deal is.

There are far more choices in chassis for a 700 than there are for the tikka or howa.
You could buy the lgs remington and a chassis for less than the howa.

The Rem700 one at LGS comes with Athlon 6-24X50mm scope

That's a better scope than the Nikko sterling but there are a bunch of different Athlon 8-24x50 models so it could just be a $300 scope but it could also be a $700 scope.
The details matter.
Is it FFP and 30mm tube?

Not sure, I havenít had a chance to go check it out. From what I heard from my friend that goes there often it might be the lower end model

Being a Remington guy, I do realize other brands are good. Im not familiar with Howa, is it good?

Howa is made in Japan.
Very good quality as with most Japanese made machines.
It has metric threads in the receiver so many gunsmiths won't rebarrel them.
It has limited aftermarket support compared to a 700 but if you don't care about customizing, they are fine rifles.
It's much like a push feed model 70 with a mini claw extractor so it's not as good at handling case ruptures as a closed bolt face of the 700 design.
