Much of red America knows what a socialist S8t hole Calif is becoming and why. It is no secret.

It is the case where I feel prejudiced for getting lumped into the term Californian.
My exit plan is well in the works though.

We were there in the 80s and they didn't much like us even at that time. Same thing in Oregon and Washington.

In other words, business as usual. Nothing has changed in the last 30+ years. And the people of Idaho won't like Californians moving there in 2030, 2040, 2050, etc.

So much fail.

I've been going to Idaho for 2 years to look at property there.
Recently for 30 days back in June after I sold my house in SoCal.....and a week long adventure back in October.
I'm just not ready to pull the trigger yet.

The MAJORITY of people moving in Idaho....are from Idaho.
People are selling homes they bought years ago, and are moving up.

Washington...Oregon and California are a small percentage of the folks moving to the state.

And Boise/Ada county is close to becoming democrat.
Many are worried that enough democrats may move to the treasure valley area and control the state....like Portland, Seattle, etc.

And after talking to many folks there, you soon realize that most that live there, have moved there over the past decade.
Very few where born there....so it's really a non-issue.

The only real problem for Idaho....
The price of houses has gone up the past few years....not enough on the market.....but they have been on a building spree in the treasure valley.
This also caused an issue with wages not growing as quickly.
Infrastructure for the influx of people is lagging.

Interesting. People in Washington State and Oregon used to complain about Californians moving in almost 30 years ago for the same reasons. Increasing housing prices etc..

The people moving and buying homes and still having cash in the bank are also spending their money there and contributing to the local economy.

I just came back from Boise after spending a week and a half there. Loved it. People asked where I was from and I always said Cali, followed by but I'm not a stereotypical Californian. Then we laughed. I thought I read that this mayor candidate only got 2% of the vote. I have to wait a year, but I am moving to Idaho ASAP.

I’d figure out a way to end this.

In my world, If you voted democrat, you would not be allowed to leave CA due to your dislike of ANY democrat policies, such as high taxes, homelessness, etc, which you by definition voted for by voting democrat.

In fact, democrats who have the unmitigated gall to leave this state due to the end result of their “hope & change” smacking them in the face; they ought to be punished.

A couple of my neighbors said they were worried when they heard people from CA were moving in.. then we got here and they saw the Jeep with the DTonM flag and the NRA lifer sticker and felt better.

Told them all I left CA behind and to consider me a political refugee ;)

Lived In Idaho since January of 2015. 3 years in Idaho Falls and a little more than a year in Meridian. I have never, ever, received any crap for being from CA except from getting ribbed by friends.
It has not effected me or my children in the slightest.
Most Idahoans don't fear Californians, they fear liberals.
The only gripe I have ever heard that does not involve liberals is the rising price of houses and that is for all immigrants.

I accomplish this by explaining "I'm from the goofy state" (they always know which one) "but I'm one of the good ones" (they always know what that means).

Change your plates before anything else. I hate seeing CA plates (I'm sure I'm not the only one)... It's no different from flying a flag from another country - as far as I'm concerned. If you want to embrace your new home - ditch the baggage.

Bragging about CA isn't going to score points... The only time I really talk about CA is when giving warnings about failures - encouraging others to vote accordingly.

I have no problem with Idahoans and Californians that have been in Idaho for longer than I have, not wanting more Californians to move here. They have GENUINE concerns that should not be ignored and I totally get it. Shows how elitist and entitled even conservatives from California are when faced with this issue, "If you don't want us in your state you're stupid." that's not the way to go about things.

Seeing the level of decay in California, I'm not surprised Idahoans are skeptical about everything coming out of there. I'd much rather live in a place where people are cautious about outsiders as opposed to the bleeding heart types that want everyone in the world including their *** backwards cultures to move in and crowed up the place.

Technically, you're wrong.. CA is not in a "population" death spiral - they are in a "fiscal" death spiral. The taxpayers are leaving and are being replaced by even greater numbers of undocumented democrats. :D How can any central american pass on gavin's free medical ?

There have been segments (enclaves) in Idaho who've been resentful of California residents for decades. Back in the late '80's and early '90's, it was a well-established, unwritten rule that one should change their license plate before moving into a neighborhood in Idaho. I personally know one gal I went to school with had a brick thrown through her front window when it became known she had moved from California.

I was in Boise in, I believe, 1990 and walked into a shop. The kid behind the counter was telling the one customer in the shop about the problems Idaho was having with (expletive deleted) Californians. When the customer left and the kid turned to me, I asked him if I should let him know I was one of those (expletive deleted) Californians, pointing to my license plate pointing directly at his front window. He grunted, walked into the back room, and no one came out to serve me.

When I moved back to California from Texas 20 years ago, I went to pick up a fishing license in Idaho and the swipe of my driver's license didn't work through the system. I told the guy to try my Texas driver's license number and it went right through. He asked if I wanted to change the number in the system, then asked why I would move from Texas to California and advised I should keep quiet about it.

I've heard stories about 'resistance' such as landlords not renting to you if you don't have an Idaho job, but employers not hiring you if you don't have an Idaho address. This came from people living out of motels or in campgrounds (trailer parks) until they could establish employment to be able to rent apartments/houses. They don't seem to share those feelings, at least, not as much, with people who come in with job-in-hand or with those who actually purchase property.

We see similar resentments in other States. The mayor of Bend, Oregon made headlines by referring to California migrants as "locusts."

All of this was back in the day before the Internet had taken hold and you got a lot of this via word of mouth, local news, and, if CNN caught hold of it.

I understand the rule that most urban centers are blue but can someone explain to me HOW Maricopa County, in a border state suffering the effects of mass illegal immigration, can stay red but Ada County(Boise) in Idaho is blue?

I've met a number of CA refugees since moving to the Treasure Valley 12 months ago: contractors, auto body shop manager, etc, some recent arrivals and others who moved out of CA decades ago. The greatest number of "encounters" have taken place at the gun range. No one from California who loves this country, its constitution, the opportunity afforded need be concerned about being accepted (in my experience). Being a gun owner doesn't hurt one bit.
