Just making sure I'm reading this right:

"Arrive 15 minutes before the start of your shooting time. There will be no refunds or extensions given for arriving late. Gates close promptly at 11:00am and 3:00pm."

The 1PM session has to arrive at 12:45PM or anytime before 3PM?

jackson-ri 05-31-2020 9:54 PM

You are reading it correctly.

happy news! but not gonna come back till the mask requirement is gone. but at least it will be open for those who choose to wear masks. the time requirement isn't prohibitive for me since i would usually shoot for 2-3 hrs anyway

How much for one session time slot. I'm not a member.

Their website shows $25 for adults. I've already signed up. Itching to do some shotgunning.

Just to clarify their website regulations regarding benches and chairs. Can you still use their cement tables for shooting and their stools at the shooting table?

Hockeytodd03 06-07-2020 7:40 PM

Shooting tables are still there and the stools for them. No picnic tables or other benches so bring a folding chair. Other than that had a great time shooting on Friday.

I just went there today and you can still use the shooting table/stools. For additional info every other shooting lane is open on the rifle range for social distancing. The pistol range had every third lane open. Manual trap was business as usual with all stations open. The mention about bringing chairs on their website is for having a place to sit during seize fire sessions as the usual white benches they had for you to sit is no longer there. While talking to some of the range workers it’s still a work in progress as rules might change depending on the needs of keeping customers and employee safe. Hope this helps...

Had a fantastic afternoon there. They did a great job of controlling the attendance and marking everything. The person monitoring the gate was friendly and provided clear instructions for entering and direction signs were easy to follow. RSO was proactive about explaining everything upon our arrival at the shooting station. It was way more orderly and relaxing than the typical weekend before SIP.

Went last Friday and had a wonderful time in the AM session. Looking to go back again in 2 weeks or so!

maxicon 06-09-2020 10:26 AM

Is the $25 admission per person, per station, or ?

It's been a while since I've been there; looking to get my rifles back dialed in!

Thanks for clarifying that the stools are still there at the shooting bench and that you don't have to bring your own. It sounded absurd when I first read that but then in this strange, warped version of how things used to be not much else surprises me anymore.

Any updates on Los ALtos Rod & Gun operation post SIP? I plan to bring an experienced shooter with me who has never been to Los Altos.

Are they still administering their written safety test and issuing their range passes during this reduced operations phase?

Do you have to wear the masks all the time, or can you take it off if there is no one nearby?

jackson-ri 06-22-2020 6:09 PM

Please check our website for changes to operations.

No safety test will be given but a verbal orientation will need to be done for anyone without an orange safety card.

You are required to have your mask all the time unless inside your car.

SandHill 07-20-2020 12:45 PM

I was up at Los Altos Rod & Gun on Friday afternoon. Great experience. There were a number of cars waiting to get in when I got there at 12:50. I was worried it would fill up. But once they opened, people spread out and there was plenty of room for everyone. I was there for the pistol range, and even though they were only using every third lane, there were lanes available all afternoon - you did not have to be there on the opening gun to get a place. They are doing a good job with controlling attendance via the reservations.

Price is not cheap $29 for half day session, but hopefully will go back down after Covid subsides.

Everyone had to wear masks, which is a drag in the heat, but I think we all understand the need for that now. Other than that, and the closed lanes, it was pretty much operating business as usual. It looked like they were administering the test for their orange range cards again. They asked you not to sweep up brass unless it was yours, so in that way it was more compete service than usual. As always, a great day, nice to be doing anything out of the house for a change! Gonna hit the trap range next time.

I had a great first trip here today. Arrived at about 1:10 for the afternoon slot and it was perfect. No waiting to get in. Passed the written quiz, but missed that “trick” question about where you can aim your gun. Spoiler Alert, Up is ok if unloaded.
There were still a few openings at the handgun range and everything was great. Everyone who worked there that I talked to was incredibly nice, even when people left mags in their guns during cease fire.

JibSTir13 08-05-2020 5:50 PM

Are they selling ammo for range use or is it bring your own?

*Edit: NM, just read on their website they sell ammo w/an amount restriction.

beanz2 09-23-2020 12:48 PM

Ok, we make reservations or first come, first served?

I moved out of the Bay area 20 years ago. The Lost Altos range is so wonderful.

maxicon 11-18-2020 2:01 PM

My son and I went to the Los Altos range last week to do some sighting in, and it was a good experience.

It was a beautiful day, sunny and not too cool, right before the rains hit.

We got there about 1:15. There was no wait, we got our orange cards, picked up some targets and a spotting scope, and set everything up.

Everyone was helpful and friendly, and there were lanes available for what we needed.

It's great to have this range open in the area!
