View Full Version : Hands up if you ever dumped a box of X-Treme .223 pills all over your bench...

Guilty. The dang box slid right out the second I grabbed it off the top shelf this weekend lol. Spilled .223 pills everywhere! Only good news was it was a brand new box, so I instantly turned to my kid standing there with his jaw opened and did my best Rainman impression.. "five... five... five hundred pills, yup five hundred pills..." as they scattered across the bench and floor.
I kept having close calls, and barely catching that slick box but just put off doing something about it. Finally caught up to me this time so from now on I don't use the X-Treme box to store an opened box. :)
Anyone else had an X-Treme box of .223 pills slide out from under them? ;)

Try dumping 25 pounds of #8-1/2 shot all over your carpet.

I've done that with 223 and 308 pills. A lot of expletives will get the job done quicker. :p

Now that's a true PITA clean up job. Did you use a vaccuum with a nylon net?

Nope, I drop 'em one at a time
Over and over and over and over and oh my aching back over...... etc.
Of course I have to get on my hands and knees to find were they roll under the nearest cabinet/toolbox/pile.
The thousand round value boxes of Lapua Scenars are what piss me off. That flimsy cardboard and thin plastic bag simply do not cut it for handling the weight, but the savings is generally significant enough over the 100 bullet plastic boxes that it's not rational to not get the value box. I'd happily pay a couple bucks more to get it in package that stays together.
I dumped enough to have me cursing. Those 55gr .223s have a mind of their own sometimes.

The last big earthquake we had in march, 1000 montana gold 9mm bullets went all over the bench and foor, along with 1500 zero .357's.
I came home to that from a long weekend of turkey hunting.

Nope, never happened in 30 plus years of reloading.

Never dumped a box of pills like that but what may be worse: loading 100 primers in the pick up tube and forgetting to put the cotter pin in. Turn tube over and primers promptly spill everywhere. Luckily only dumped about 25 before I caught it. But those little buggers scattered far and wide.

Nope, but Ive only been reloading for a little over a year, so I have time.
So far the worst has been an unsuccessful flip of a tray of primers.

i dropped two at the same time.... nearly identical bullets, a 150 grain .308 and a 123 grain .311....that was ALOT of sorting, cursing, and nearly throwing my digital calipers out the window.
but i learned that x-treme bullets are very consistent diameter, so thats nice.
Too bad they fell and got all dented up and unusable - send them to me for proper disposal.

I didn't do that. I read about someone doing that on shotgunworld forums.
I dumped 10 pounds of #4 steel shot on the carpet, but I used a super magnet to pick it all up. Every now and then I still find a shot.

I don't have to. When we bought our condo, the previous owners left hundreds of lead BB's in the carpet, under the stove, in the doorjambs, etc...I still find some once in a while, even after extensive remodeling...
Of course, the first stage of that remodeling was ripping out that carpet the first night with a Ka-Bar...

Ever drop a primer on a ceramic tiled floor? Those suckers have more range than my .308.

I to had a simuler experience...
A CCI 500 spp 100 primer container slipped open on me and ended up on/in my carpet. The carpet is a cut pile berber, off white color. I spent a week searching for them things. I would be on my knees feeling around for straglers untill I would get pissed then stop. I stayed with it and recovered all of them. lol
I learned to handle those primer boxes very carefuly...

Forgot to add the 2nd part of my stupidity:
I started with a known count of 100 primers. After picking up what I could immediately find, priming and counting brass, I was 4 short. Found 3. Still could not for the life of me find that last primer. Must have spent an hour scouring my garage floor and the misc crap that tends to accumulate in ones garage. Finally gave up.
Next time I went to use that primer pick up tube. Guess where that 100th primer was - still in the end of the pick up tube. Nimrod!!:facepalm::facepalm:

could use a magnet for the steel primer cups?
I have a degaussing magnet i use for data destruction that works pretty well. though gotta use it in short bursts.... if i leave stuff stuck to it with the trigger on they vibrate and heat up....

The worst is stepping on a primer at night barefoot.

I haven't yet dumped a bunch of .223 bullets onto my bench but I have dumped a bag of 100 .311 150 gr though. The Prvi bullets come in a zip lock bag of 100 and one bag I picked up happened to have a sizable hole in the bottom. Of course I had that moment of "what's happening here" as I watched them spill everywhere and roll onto the wood floor. Once they hit the ground they can travel pretty far and roll into the tightest of spaces.
I have also spilt primers everywhere and they are even more fun to find.

No big deal. My 550 sits in the living room and it like to spit out spent primers on the carpet, which migrate to the laminate floor in the kitchen. You get used to them.
My pills stay in the bathroom cupboard as well, and my 55 grain 224 bullets come in 6,000 qty boxes, which I can not lift above my head to put on a shelf. The costco candy/nut containers that are clear and have red or blue lids, work well to hold 2k of the bullets. That is a nice size to work out of. It is hard to spill the container.
Sometimes the new primers do get away from me. They look so close to old primers already on the floor, especially on the multicolored carpet:facepalm:
The most annoying is when the powder thrower has a hiccup and dumps a few grains or more of powder on the shell plate, then I have to take it apart and clean it so that everything works right.
Crap happens.

That is what I want. I want to be able to bring some chick home one night and when she is using the bathroom she opens the medicine cabinet and finds 4 1lb bottles of h110 or hs6 (cause you know how chicks like to use your bathroom and then look in your medicine cabinet to see what meds you are on...)
Maybe store my .224 pills in a large cookie jar on the dining table with a scooper in it...

No, Stilly. Pills, as in drugs. :facepalm:I don't keep bullets (not called pills) in the bathroom.
The bathroom cupboard is good for other items though. It could give a new meaning to blowing up the bathroom!

Guilty! Was in the process of unloading my shipment of xtreme bullets out of my car when on my last trip from the car to the work bench the one box on the top just slid off. They were everywhere, somehow ended up with 506 instead of just 500. I guess for my troubles. ;)

Dropping cast bullets (with wax lube) on a dirty concrete floor isn't fun either. The lube picks up the dirt and anything else on the floor. I don't want to run that stuff down my barrel. A few here and there end up on the floor. Luckily, when I moved a box of 1,000 40 cal 155 lswc bullets a few weeks ago, I noticed the box bulging a bit. The tape was letting go on the bottom of the box. I flipped it over for now, as the top was still good.
Bear Creek has great boxes for their bullets. I reuse them and fill them with my own cast boolits. The berry's bullet boxes are not bad either. I bought my first 224 bullets from them. You just have to watch that the lid is snapped tight and that the hinge doesn't break after having them around for a few years.
