I'd like to hear from anyone here who's using moly coated bullets in the AR15

Which bullet?
Are you coating yourself?
What product, and how do you apply?
How do you control the application?

Why moly?

No need to moly. Its messy, cost more ,especially if you buy moly bullets from a major company.

Dam near NO ONE uses moly bullets in competition anymore.

There is a reason for that.

How are they doing in the matches?

I ask about moly out of curiosity.
When I last looked at (and/or gave a damn about) .223 black rifle match shooting (1990's), 'moly or not' seemed to be a relavent discussion.
I'd been given a red box of black hills moly coated 75gr hpbt loads which I never ended up using until last week or so. They shot very nicely, but the kroil and JB bore paste follow-up was a ***** (as I'm not planning to continue with moly...)

Just wondering.
I figured someone out there was still using the stuff.

A top flight USMC team will do very well with whatever ammo is provided.Check Camp Perry scores from year to year and you will see.Im getting ready for a tournament in Az,and Im sure some Marines will be there, and would expect them to be near the top in competition.

HP790-
I figured they'd be doing exceptionally well - why do you think they bother with moly?
If you get the chance, would you ask?

moly is used to reduce friction.

less friction = less pressure.

Sierra sells moly bullets under the Matchking line unless you want to manage the process.

And less velocity ,which for the reloader leaves us at a point to decide ...is it worth moly coating bullets?...NO!Any loss in friction is going to mean less velocity and that means if your powder is at max case capacity there is no room left to get that lost velocity back.

For a plinker/reloader, the cost and effort aint worth it out of a 223 gas gun.

Have seen MK294 and compared that to my short line 77. MK294 appears to be moly 77smk, WCC cases, 2.25", and no idea about charge weight but I know that's more than 24.5 grains since I can't hear the powder shake inside the case.

The military match ammo is hotter for sure.I have a hot load ,and mil match is half min flatter.

Saw a few shooters at a recent Mid Range match using moly'd 6.5

Oops, saw you were asking about AR's. They weren't shooting AR's, I was.
