So my dad lives in NV and wants to gift a gun that's under $1000...which one would you choose? Its intra family transfer so its roster exempt.

Sweet. I've wanted a Px4 in .45ACP since forever, but that's not a popular opinion.

BTW, you seem already to be familiar with the law, but make sure you read this:
http://wiki.calgunsfoundation.org/Transferring_Firearms_Among_Some_Family_Members

Also, watch out for the "straw purchase" targeting:

Very broad answers with that budget. You can narrow to some if you know what action you like (or dislike), and what you already have.
1911's are always great gifts.

Some things that are difficult to SSE: TacSol's Lites, 22's that are fixed barrel.

Leaning towards a 1911 or sig...no polymer

Geez, something that is forbidden here for sure. Maybe a Rhino.

The Indiana State Police and Pennsylvania State Police recently adopted it as their new standard issue sidearm.

Nope on the rail, but CZ custom can add one if you really want one: http://czcustom.com/cz97bpicatinnyaccessoryrail.aspx

I have seen a version with an add-on rail from CZ Custom. Looks nice and I think can be a DIY project.

Let me tell you this, it is my "best surprise" handgun of all. I have more expensive guns - mostly 1911's - and as much as I like 1911's, the CZ 97B is just wonderful. I am most accurate with it. I even created a thread for it :)

Good luck!

Cool! Good luck!

If I had a parent who lives outside of California, they will be gifting me a lot of off-roster handguns ;)

I envy your situation. Enjoy!
