I bought a P245 on GunBroker and it is sitting at one of the dealers I use for paperwork. It comes off the list on 4/8/08. Not sure if it will be renewed.

I forgot that it came off the list and went ahead and DROS-ed another gun under 1 per 30 day rule which prohibits me from DROS-ing the P245 since the 30 days end on 4/15/08.

Should I cancel my current DROS in order to get the P245? Would canceling DROS allow me to start the 1 in 30 day rule again immediately?

Is the P245 a PPT?

Is the P245 a PPT?

Going through Gunbroker usually means he bought it out of State, so shipping it in counts as a dealer transaction and the 30 day applies, if he got it on Gunbroker and the gun is local than yes it would be a PPT, but in this case it sounds like it's an out of State deal

Actually it was in state but from SoCal. I had to have it shipped up north.

Then it's not a PPT, unless you did the gunshow papers exemption.

Correct. Not a PPT. My dealer (RCGX) was gracious in allowing me to cancel the DROS so I can register the P245 in case it drops off the safe list.

I rewarded him by buying a S&W 66-2 6" LAPD in .38 special!! and a S&W 19-5 4". Both had the original 1980's blue/white boxes as well as the cleaning kits and manuals.

woohoo.

Huh. Wish I had the funds to reward my local gunshops like that! :D

dude, your monthly gun budget is most likely more than my rent and truck payment together!!!!!!!!

Not really. I sold 11 guns in the last 3 weeks. That's where the funds are coming from to buy other guns.

Call Sig and ask them if they had renewed with the DOJ.

Or get a family member to DROS it before 4/8/08 and PPT to you later.
This way will be cheaper than cancelling and reDROSing.

Seeing how the P245 isn't manufactured anymore (replaced by the P220 Compact) I'd say you did the right thing. I doubt it will be renewed.

Gift it (to avoid straw man sale) to a trusted friend who is outside the one-gun a month period. It gets DROS'd to your friend. After he gets bored with it, he can PPT to you.

It will cost you a little more but may be worth it to you.

I'd have someone else DROS it who isn't under the 30 day rule. Its not going to be a strawman sale because its being DROSed. Once the 10 days are over the gun can be re-DROSed to you as a PPT. No laws are being broken. It just is going to cost you the extra $35 DROS fee. Just make sure the other person is a friend you can trust who isn't going to back out on the deal after the gun is registered in his name. It seems you have some good friends around here that would do that for you, if not send me a PM.

Thanks everyone.

It's taken care of.
