View Full Version : Acquiring a S&W Model 58 in CA (on list or not?)

The S&W Model 58 4" is on the CA approved list in both blue and stainless incarnations -- this revolver has never been reissued by S&W (as of 2014), and it IS on the CA list, so... can I legally acquire one of these? One gun shop I asked at told me the dash number had to match exactly, and there's no such thing on the S&W web page for the Model 58.

Sorry to sound confused but I *am* confused. To be on the CA list, S&W has to jump through some hoops, and since the Model 58 hasn't been manufactured since 1979 (I think), they want it on the list, yes?

Anyone know for a fact? TIA!

Argh, so much for the supposed wisdom of NOT consulting Wikipedia first... thanks!

According to the SCSW the M58 was made from 1964 to 1969. No dash numbers were introduced.

The Wiki photo is a M58 Classic. It might actually have a dash number or whatever. That's the model I would expect to find on the roster.

EDIT: Yup. Roster lists M58-1 in blue & nickel. FINALLY found a Google image for an M58-1. For some reason almost everybody just photographs the right side...
