I've been trying to find a Saiga 308 in the Sporter configuration for quite some time but can't. I've seen a few already converted going for close to $900+, but I want to convert it myself.

I'm hoping like hell someone sells one come Black Friday so I can jump for joy like a little school girl

How accurate is a $500 ak from somewhere like classic or atlantic? I mean, I'm all about turning money into noise and pumpkin pieces but I don't want to buy some jacked up rifle thats dirt cheap.

Ak quality is important , accuracy depends on you ,ammo you use etc
Companies you mentioned above are usually selling ak kit build buy some other guys, so it's a gamble ,nothing is better than factory build ak ,unless u are building it yourself :43:
This is why I would recommend O PAP Zastava made rifle

I would like to build it myself but, having read threads about building AKs, it seems like I need more tools than an AR to build one. I'm not afraid of work but I can't justify buying stuff I'll use only once.

With all do respect why 308? For me the best reason to own an ak is a cheap ammo I can go and shoot **** out of it, had a 308 sold it, ammo is too expensive, look at 5.45x39 Saigas :)

You always can look for a build party in your area , check AKteam members they'll show you the way, but with the kits prices this days you better of with excellent quality OPap IMO

So close, should of said the 16in barrel. I know I could cut the bare down and re-thread, but I don't have the tools.

In response to why .308? Simply because I've always wanted a .308 semi-automatic rifle & I love AK's. I know it's expensive to shoot, but I already own a few 7.62x39's that I enjoy shooting because of the cheap ammo. I know some would say there's better options like the M1A or AR platform for .308, but again I just really like the AK. So it's either going to be a Saiga or VEPR.

AIM - won't sell to CA their AK's. They don't deal with bullet buttons and 10 round mags and stuff like that.

Atlantic or Classic City are the two I'd look for AK's from. Atlantic is a great vendor and very easy to order from. Haven't tried Classic yet, but heard great things about them.

The Zastava O-PAP is a beast of a rifle and shoots reliably and accurate enough for me.

They actually have some pretty good deals on AK's chambered in .308 in thier inventory. I think the Sporter was $750 w/ a 21in barrel, and a fully converted AK with handgaurds was closer to $850. Might as well get the fully converted AK.

I don't think they'll install a BB...

1. Because more is good
2. Because an AK on steroids is extra evil
3. Because .308 turns cover into concealment

Very nice Bob:punk: but 900 for converted 308 Saiga, you can get Vepr x54r better quality for a grand, ammo 180x880 , don't want to start 308vs7.62x54r but IMO Russian round is flatter and harder
BTW have both Vepr and Saiga 308(sold it(wasn't using her much, ammo prices)
