My hunting load is 49.5gr IMR4895, Remington 9 1/2 primers topped with a 150gr Speer Grand Slam. Shoots MOA out of my 30 year old Rem 700. Chronographs at 2550fps. I have been trying out some heavier charges lately trying to get up to 2900fps, but my groups start opening up. I have killed at least 15 deer with this ;load.

IMR4895 x2!!

Love it. My old sportered 03A3 shoots sub MOA with 48gr and 150's or 165's. I know it's not the hottest load but who cares. It's dead on for way further than I can or will ever shoot a deer at. Plenty enough for me. And 4895 is THE garand powder. So I'm set.

Well I might have some data for you later. I'm going to be trying some 760 with 168s and Remington 9.5s. But I don't know when I'm going to get to that testing.

milo,
is that a ball powder?if so becareful!i only say that because ball powder isambient temperature sensative.watch for flucuations over 70 degrees.

It is ball. Thanks for the warning, I knew about ball's temperature sensitivity but I didn't think it was that extreme. I'll keep the loads light and try not to cook the rounds. It was just the powder that was available, I'll shoot H4859, H4350 or RL17 when it shows up again.

O'Connell was scolding me for cooking rounds. He said it didn't really matter on a hot day with an AR and stick powder but it was bad practice and one day it will matter when you need the points.

jim is right.if the round heats up ,the pressure will build.i never close the bolt until im ready to shoot.i might close the bolt for the sighters, but after that...
im of the opinion that if i know the chamber is hot,it matters at every shot, wether its hot or cold out.

I have a question about this. Isn't every gun, regardless of caliber, unique in it's likes and dislikes? Therefore what groups well in one gun might group horribly in another gun, even if it's the exact same gun, just a different date of manufacture? And therefore is there any point in asking this question in the first place, except to get a general idea (which the OP would already have since he has two reloading manuals)?

Just asking...

wtkaiser,
your right after all ,what is the point to all these nonsensical rambling posts.all people have to do is read a book and answer there own questions.answer...it provides a outlet for others too put there 2cents in the pot ,for an over analyzed question ,with an abundance of pointless thought...use of guages, dimensions, weight, caliber, bullet, powder, doe s anybody really care?
