What is your opinion on this muzzle brake? And if your opinion is don't baubba the highly sought after, limited to only 12+ million 91/30 Mosin, you can keep that opinion to yourself. No seriously, Boyds thumbhole stock, scope, and this thing at the end, would probably function rather well, no?

I'm thinking of giving it a shot, only because Gearhog has $50 gift card for $25. http://www.gearhog.com?rf=656059 Yes this is my referral link.

I had one and it blew right off of my gun on shot #1.
Don't do it.

Muzzle brakes need to be threaded on, or pinned, not clamped. I've picked up three clamp on brakes in the last year........about 25yrds out in front of the shooting line.

Haha, clamp on - blow off!

Why would you post a bubba project in the C&R forum anyway? You just know you're going to catch crap for it.

"For that kind of action you have to pay double" - A line from the movie: DodgeBall: A True Underdog Story

Seriously - Seems unnecessary and a waste of money, hell for that amount you can (almost) buy a spam can of ammo!

Don't bother with it bro (IMHO)

That's what I was afraid of.

Because I knew I'd still get an answer to the question posted ;)

I disagree. There are Muzzle Brakes, and then there are Muzzle Brakes.
This one never comes off. Ever. It never affects accuracy. Ever.

There are Old Guys, guys with arthritis, and the guy who fires 50 rounds, rubs his shoulder and says, "Good day at the range".

Then the guy with the Clamp-On Brake who fires 200 rounds and says "Nuts. I ran out of ammo."

The clamp on M/N ones are complete garbage.

Looking at them, I agree. It's a flawed design. I can't believe there isn't a machine shop out there that couldn't develop the right type of brake for that rifle.
It really isn't rocket science. Our brakes for the Swiss rifles is a solid 38% reduction in felt recoil. I admit that it took a number of designs and a lot of field testing, but what kind of a shop wouldn't do that anyway?

I just noticed a minor error in final seating. You slide it on, twist, tignten the screws just tight, fire the rifle which allows the brake to go as far forward as it can, then... tighten the screws down dead tight.
I have to admit I'm not a fan of tightening screws directly against the barrel. That would typically tend to change centering to a minor degree, but.........

I remember these actual M1 30 cal clamp on (wingnut) muzzle breaks for sale in the old army/navy surplus stores.

http://www.northridgeinc.com/store/index.cfm/c127/i211

And even then, would they really be useful? For a bolt action?

I dont like the idea of hard screwing anything to the barrel, but I am curious enough to want to try one of those Zane breaks out.

I think they're still sitting in a lost and found box at Yolo. Rangemaster said no one ever claimed them.

Yeah, but that's Swiss precision. That's not even in the same league. That's like Sauber vs. Trabant....

The 30 Carbine one works okay too, but its mainly just for looks. How much muzzle braking do you really need on a U.S. carbine. ;)

Well.... not exactly Swiss Precision from Switzerland itself, but.... :D Swiss Products precision, made right here in the USA............ specifically, Montana.:D

Hell mine took 4 shots before it blew off. Damaged the finish... But it looked cool, closest thing to a launcher I'd get lol.
