I just got an Oly Arms MFR AR-15 and it's shooting way low. I lowered the front sight all the way and I still can't zero it. Any tips? Are rear sights typically only equipped with windage or do some also have elevation?

Both sights are cheap flip-ups that it came with...maybe I need a new front sight that has a lower elevation range? I'm 2 feet low at 25 yards!!

If I was shooting elephants at 10 yards that might work!

Are you using a F height front sight? Also is sight post in the middle of the rear sight circle?

Fixed height front sight? No, i lowered it a ton and it raised the shot from like 4 feet low to 2 feet low. Yes, post is in the middle of the rear sight.

Is the front sight on a gas block or is it mounted to the rail? Is the rear rail a raised rail or standard?

Maybe it is time to invest in a quality set of sights.

Start by buying a good set of sights and re-zero.

Where are the sights mounted? Front sight on the rail or gas block? What brand sights are you using?

Shorten the front site post.

Some front sights are made for gas block height and some made for rail height(same as rear mount height). Sounds like you have sights made for a different mounting height. Maybe you can raise the rear with a low riser block.

There is no way the rifle could be at fault here. Your front sight is mounted wrong. The tip of the front post needs to be about 55mm or 2" above the barrel for a .750 barrel. If you have another diameter barrel, do some math.

All rear fixed sights are the same. If you have an A2 type where you can adjust for elevation, adjust it two clicks below "z".

Search for IBZ, Improved Battle Zero.

My bet is your front sight is wrong for your style.

He means "F" marked front sight (Should be fixed). Do you have an "F" marked front sight?

"F" marked front sights go with flat top upper receivers. the older A2 front site (also fixed) are for A2 receivers (built in carry handle rear sites)

To answer your question, there are sights out there that are adjustable for both windage and elevation. Are sight TYPICALLY equipped with windage only? Some are. I used to have som MagPul back ups that were like that. I got rid of them for that reason.

Sounds like you have a gas block sight mounted on a receive height rail. Does your gun have a gas block like this where it is shorter than the receiver rail?

Or does your front sight mount on a rail that is the same height as the receiver. It makes a difference when you buy the sight.

Here's a cheap fix if you need a shorter sight. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002PNHJGI/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Grind a little bit at a time off front site. Or get better sights. I just did it a mauser i had took about 3/32" off.
