Does anyone make such a thing? I can only find recoil operated weapons and I am looking to get a gas operated one for a project I am concocting.

I remember hearing about 9mm ARs. wouldn't something like an AR in 45ACP use gas system?

something like this

but in 45?

I don't know much about rifle in pistol caliber so YMMV

Pistol cartridges usually run blowback because they don't make enough gas volume to run the action using commonly available gas tubes.

You CAN get them to run with gas, but you have to shorten a pistol length gas tube and custom make the barrel.
This also creates a gas timing problem because the action is opening before the bullet leaves the barrel.
The solution is to cut the barrel back to 5" or 6" and put a can on it.

Then all is well.

That Oly .45 is a blowback. you can check akfiles.com forum, Gunsmithing & Build It Yourself section. Some folks there were making (gas operated I think) ak-47 style rifles using 9mm and 7.62X25 rounds, and suomi and PPS drums.

Why is gas operated so important to you? USC, UMP, Kris are all blowback

Not to mention the MP5. Delayed, but still blowback.
