I'm looking to have my name engraved on the slide of my stainless Sig P220.

What would be the better method, laser or mechanical engraving?

Does this need to go through an FFL if I ONLY take the slide to the engraver?

Any suggested engravers in the Bay Area? Preferably the East Bay.

If its just the slide, you do not need to go through an FFL.

I've found that laser engraving can require require multiple passes, mechanical engraving is labor intensive and can be expensive. The end result will be dependent on the engravers experience.

A number of shops I've been too charge anywhere from $40-100 for set up time and some will not even touch any firearm part due to the fact they know nothing about firearm laws.
