Nice Garand, did you go through the CMP? If so, what grade?

Bad advice. Stay out of lubricating anything in the TG namely the sear/trigger or you could potentially have a full auto on your hand. My bore and chamber is always dry.

I agree with PRO-NRA. Not a good practice to oil a chamber or bore unless you plan to clean it out at the range before shooting.
Personally I lube Garands with grease not oil, and grease a few points...
1) Pocket where the operating rod and bolt link.
2) Operating rod groove on the right side of the reciever
3) Internal races where the bolt rides in the receiver.
4) Lightly grease the operating catch and contact points on the operating rod
5) LIGHTLY under the bolt where it contacts the hammer, I mean LIGHT.

I saw this in a CMP film using the little grease cups that you can get for the garand. They did it in a few seconds in the training film. I dont like the grease so much, and use a high temp gun grease. Use your fingers, and remember you are not icing a cake, your greasing a rifle.
Good luck! :)

If it slides, grease it. If it pivots/roates, oil it.

moving metal parts need something. i see a lot of guns that look like do do . maybe my advise is bad advise but it always works for me. i do dry patch my bore before shooting. i am certain i will never wear out a moving metal part in a rifle in my life time. i am no gun smith. i do not hunt so my rifle never sees dust or dirt for oil to stick to.

Forget the lube..... I have a bunch of AR's and AK's to trade you sir. Ill give you a nice 16" piston AR and a nice 24" bull barrel and build you a nice custom AK any size or shape. build ak's daily for an 07. lmk what i gotta do for that rifle.

All moving parts, especially when you turn it over.

I like to put a little grease on the top of the op-rod, right where it rides under the chamber. My rifle shows a little wear there, so now I grease that contact point too.

Just remember this advice, never never never put lube on a gas piston. It'll turn a belt fed machine gun or a semi-auto rifle into a single shot.

The worst thing about my advice about not ever putting lube on a gas piston...is that I learned this the hard way. When I was a young soldier, I lubed the gas piston on an M60 Machine Gun and turned it into a single shot. After my sergeant smoked me for about 30 minutes, he educated me about the inner workings of gas operated rifles and machine guns.
