The Saiga 7.62 I just put in jail has a little thing on the side for a mount...

Found this:

http://m.sportsmansguide.com/Product.aspx?a=148293

But it says I can't ship to CA? Why? Is it not legal?

I have the same thing but its made by UTG. Shouldn't be a problem to ship to CA. Hrmmm...

dont see why it would be an issue. buy it from amazon...thats what i did. I got the UTG version with the two rails.

couldnt justify getting the K-Var ones at $100 a pop, when i can get two of the UTG for $70.00.

Two reasons

The UTG loosens up over time, and it sits WAY to high up.

Sportsmans Guide and many many other companies chose to protect themselves from possible legal trouble by simply not shipping anything that could even remotely cause them trouble. While I would love for them to all get the hint that spending the time to do a little research on CA laws could bring in a lot of business for them, they chose not to. Take your business elsewhere if you can and send them polite but direct letters explaining why the item is legal and should be sold to CA.
Worst case and only IF it is legal in CA, buy it and have it shipped to a friend in a non-limited state who can then ship it in to you. If the cost is still within reason, this works best to get what you want.

Trying to reason with SG is a losing cause. They have their policy, I abide by it by ordering nothing from them.

I can deal with Midway or a few others on the "no ammo" to include reloading stuff shipped to SF. I suppose one could accept there's some foundation for them taking that approach. But SG wouldn't ship even a M1 carbine "L type" rear sight to me. I really don't want to shop and guess what foolishness may result in something being bounced from my cart.

Because SG are not California friendly.

Sportsmans Guide sucks!
Don't waste your time, they don't want your business.
Someone else has what you need, keep looking.

+1 on Sportmans guide blowing dogs for nickels.
I refuse to order ANYTHING from them, and have had that policy for years.

I can tell you it doesn't because mine never did after sitting clamped on the rail for more than two years, its still very tight.

It sits high only on the Romanian rifles like the WASR and the Cugir M10 because the side rail is mounted higher on the receiver. The side rail is mounted lower on the receiver of the Saiga so it sits about right on a Saiga or Arsenal. I know because I have both the Saiga and the Cugir.

Want a really low side rail mount? Look here: http://www.midwestindustriesinc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_ID=433

This thing practically kisses the dust cover on a Saiga but on the Cugir it has about a 3/8in gap.

where are you located? If local, I'll sell you a UTG quick detach for $10... I'll add a UTG RDS for another $15... and add four tapco mags (with pouches) for another $15.

These are items I got as part of a used saiga purchase (but I don't use them)... RDS is new in box, mags/pouches & rail look as new (not sure if they were used, but no wear).

Did this happen recently? I bought some 7.62x54r a few months ago without any problems. Try ordering some more ammo recently and it was a no go.

I had the complete opposite experience with my saiga. If you consider it "about right" being that high, you must have a helluva chin weld.

Sportsmans Guide is the same as Cheaper Than Dirt. To heck with them, there are a LOT of California friendly retailers so just don't buy from the non-California friendly retailers, their loss.

Sportsmans Guide doesn't deserve your business. UTG stuff is generally crap and might be suitable for airsoft toys. Check these vendors:

Exile Machine
Brownells
Joe Bob Outfitters
MidwayUSA
SWFA
Riflegear
Primary Arms

Regardless of it being a little high or low, the scope's objective lens still needs to be able to clear the rear trunnion and sight leaf.

Mine sits as low as physically possible. Note how the scope barely clears the rear trunnion. And my cheek gets a little help from the added cheek rest on the stock.

Nothing wrong with UTG their stuff is good enough for most uses. You're not going to war with it.

If you're are gonna shop the Russian made side mounts from Kalinka, make sure you have a lot of patience. They take a while, they don't have a phone number and they do not answer e-mails but they do deliver eventually.

doesn't get any lower (or more rail space) than this:

Texas Weapons Systems (all pics are on Saiga, but I use them on different guns)

w/LaRue (what I currently use on Saiga with Bushnell Zoom Dot RDS)

w/Burris XTR Med (with another Strikefire - I will use this on a different PAP, in jail right now)
