Hi guys. I have a old Savage 99, in 300 Savage and would like any info on loads with different powders. All I seem to find is IMR4064 and IMR4895, which is ok, but I would like to try newer powders like RL17 and Hodgedon Superformance , even Varget if possible. Any help would be great appreciated.

What bullet do you fancy?

From everything I have read, the vast majority favor a 150 grain bullet. I want to have this gun as a hunting gun, to about 300 yards max, but all of my reloading has been for target and just plinking for my milsurps , so I really don't have strong favorites for a hunting bullet, so suggestions are very welcome, opinions also !

Lyman's 49th Edition has some good information about the 300 Savage.

Sorry, right at this moment I do not have a Lymans book. Do they list newer powders ?

Thank you for the link. No one in my area has Win powder, so I am left with the old standbys. I would like to find some newer loads with newer powders as I have the three samples that I mentioned and would love to try them, if possible.

Does anyone have a copy of the New Hornady book? They sell a 300 Savage SST150 in Superformance, so I was hoping they might have something in their newest book. As for the loaddata.com site I guess I might have to pay the money to see some loads.

There are a lot of powders in my Lee book for 150gr jacketed for Savage 300. It looks like AA-2520 will yield the highest velocities, start 39.6gr max 42.5gr which according to Lee yields 2765fps. Loaded to a minimum OAL of 2.6"

Good luck, have fun.

Maybe bnate has an RL-15 in his Hornaday book. Lee only lists RL-12, for 150gr jacketed - 42.0 start, 43.0gr maximum loaded to a mOAL of 2.6" yielding 2635fps.

The above was found using RL-15 in 300 Savage. Search engines are your friend.

I use rl15 @ 40.5gr pushing a Hornady amax 150gr boattail. More than that i could see primer flow.
