What do you think? I love the finger grooves. The rattlesnake grips are sweet, and actually provide good traction! (yes it's real rattlesnake skin)

May do a round of duracoat or even rustoleum camo paint (the RIA GI finish isn't PERFECT by any stretch of the imagination). Definitely going to change out the GO sights. Any recommendations on the above? Maybe a nicer barrel? It's a project gun guys, it's going to be a fun journey! I welcome any commentary!

Love the snake skin. The finger grooves are more suited to a tactical pistol IMO. That's why I didn't put Hogue grips on my GI.

Sorry, missed the bit about how you want to do camo paint. That should look real nice with those grips. Fusion Firearms makes a couple different style of night sights that should fit the GI slide, and there's a great video on Youtube showing how to do a buff and polish on the trigger internals that will clean up the action without changing up the appearance of the gun too much. Hope that's some help.

Those look real nice. I'm trying to decide on what would look best on my nickle 1911, hmm

Thanks, yes, that definitely helps. To clarify, I probably will not do a true camo pattern - maybe just a flat color like dark earth or something of the sort. Who knows!

This is where I got mine from: http://www.ebay.com/itm/RATTLESNAKE-COLT-45-AUTO-1911-GRIPS-by-DOG-GRIPS-/220973155070?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item337306c2fe#ht_1133wt_925

Thanks! you have lots of options with the Nickel. The great thing and the curse with 1911's is the amount of options we have available!

Wow! That is cool. Personally I think it looks good on the black 1911.

I completely agree! I think it would look like a hot mess with camo and snake. I'm just thinking of getting a nicer finish on it. The RIA GI finish isn't exactly show quality! haha But it definitely goes bang every time, so for now, I'm saying who cares. Might be one of those things where I just let it wear with age and use, and that look would probably be cooler than any paint job...

The park job on the Rocks is very thin, and it wears pretty quick. But boy did mine look badass once it started to wear in. Keep it as is.

Wish I had never traded mine off. :(

By chance would you have any pictures? Truthfully, as this thread was evolving a little, I kept thinking on it, and changed my mind from coating it, to letting the thing wear! I agree, I think it will look pretty awesome.

I do not, sorry. But I had the front strap worn down to bare steel, and had a lot of finish wear around the edges, right down to the white. It looked really cool.

What about any nice holster recommendations? Leaning towards a low hanging leather holster over a polymer holster... Who knows!

Be careful with rust under those rubber finger grooves
Snakeskin looks pretty cool!

I like the grips. If the gun were a flat tan color it would look total badazz.

DANG! I AGREE WITH YOU TOO! So many good ideas. Maybe I just need another gun - one to leave stock and wear it out, and another to go all out...

The finger grooves he has on there aren't like the hogue grips. The hogue grips make the gun feel like its a double stack gun whereas the pearce finger grooves go right under the grips and you barely notice they are even there.

The difference in grip height is minimal, you're right on that. (actually for me I like the slightly wider grip) The difference I DID notice with that, is the magazine release is slightly more difficult to access. I will want to replace that with an extended Mag release - but that should be easy. Any suggestions on where to get those, anyone?
