Springfield XD9 Subcompact with XML light:

http://www.maxicon.com/guns/xd9/XD9_XML_1a.jpg

It's basically the same as the Insight X2. Here's my take on it:

- It's very compact and light, at 45 grams (1.6 oz). Anything bigger wouldn't fit well on the XD9 subcompact.

- It points well and is pretty bright for a 3v light. Changing the focus doesn't do a whole lot, but it does widen the spot up some.

- Switch operation is good. It's positive and repeatable.

- It uses smaller CR2 batteries, rather than the 123s all my other xenon lights use, so it's another type of battery to keep on hand.

- The switch on this one is flaky. The momentary position is fine, but in the On position, it can go a little too far and turn off again. It hasn't done this under recoil yet, but the chance is definitely there. I've mounted an extended screw to keep it from going too far, but it sucks that it had the problem in the first place.

- One drop from about 4 ft, and the bulb was kaput. I ordered a new one - the cheapest I found was $17, which means 5 bulb changes will cost the same as the light. Nothing else uses this bulb AFAIK except the X2.

The next light's going to be LED...

I spray a little bit of Windex or Fantastik on a paper towel and wipe it off.

I use Mpro7.
