Would a bit of spray of CLP or brake cleaner/sovent damage the glass?

I personally would not remove the scope unless I was prepared re-zero it. Even with quick detach mounts or rails that claim no loss of zero, I feel that the potential for even even the slightest bit of loss in zero would be unacceptable. But if your scope is a 1X zeroed only for close range, it really shouldn't make any noticable difference.
As for getting any sort of lubricant on the glass, I hope you mean accidentally because you would then have to use a solvent just to get the CLP off. Watered down rubbing alcohol would probably be the harshest household chemical I would use to clean it if not just a simple piece of micro-fiber. Getting lubricant on glass would only obstruct the light transmission. Brake cleaner would probably just destroy the coating on the class (speculating). I would clean it with something designed for lenses only when it gets dirty. Lenses are easy to scratch and your glass is too valuable to risk that.
In a nutshell, i would leave the scope on. Just cover it up. If you don't have lens caps, rubber band a piece of fabric over each end.

Don't spray on the scope. Use the little straw to aim your spray.
Are you spraying the outside of the receiver? Sounds like you are planning a paint job. ;)
