I've played with the thought of buying the die set and guide to thread my AR barrel myself (*mechanically inclined*) but figured the cost of the equipment would be inline with what a gunsmith would charge. For the most part I was pretty close to that assumption, some were over $100 & I don't see myself paying that much. Anybody know of a smith in my area that can get this knocked out on fairly reasonably and quick?

You are talking the compensator correct. $100 you have to be kidding? $50 plus shipping send me your barrel and comp. I can get it done in a day or two. It actually take about an hour with set up time.
