in the late 80s i was given a colt 1911 in 45acp built in 20s. here is the question. the pistol is in Mexico and i have never brought it home, i would like it with me now. what would be the simplest way,or is it even possible to ship it to myself or an FFL

I thought it was illegal to own a 45 ACP in Mexico, no?

Thanx, Russ

In order to legally import it into the USA, you need BATFE approval or else US Customs will confiscate it.

Contact a CA FFL dealer who knows about the procedure to import/export firearms.

Prior to importation, the CA FFL dealer needs to submit an ATF 5330.3A (Form 6 Part 1) (http://www.atf.gov/forms/download/atf-f-5330-3a.pdf) in triplicate to the BATFE Firearms & Explosives Import Branch.

Be advised that the CA FFL dealer can legally charge any amount of money to do this.
