I was told that a AK underfolder is legal here in California as long as the folded overall lenght is longer than 30". So if a muzzle device is attached to make the overall folded lenght longer than 30", it is legal. Is that true?

Yes.

You are correct about the OAL requirement being 30 inches, but you also need to have a fixed magazine. A featureless rifle can not have a folding stock.

Will adding a bullet button make it a fixed magazine?

Just make sure that your muzzle device is either welded or pinned in.

Have you thought about building one? No 10 day wait, no paper trail, no registration, no serial numbers and 100% legal.

That's not necessary unless the barrel itself is shorter than 16".

can you also pin the stock in place on an under folder?
How do you do that?

There's a mod using a section of copper pipe that doesn't allow the button to be completely depressed. Someone more knowledgeable than I can dig up a link.

In fact, I have found that just one-half of the copper pipe along with a hose clamp is more than adequate to render the stock locking button in the locked position.

So did anyone come up with a CA legal underfolder that is over the 30" limit? Let's see some pics!

Mag lock + extended muzzle brake = keep your functional folder.

Extended Muzzle device doesn't have to be pinned/welded because the barrel is 16 inches long!

I have one of these, and use the AimSmall (fellow Calgunner) extended brake!
It produces a spectacular flash ... :D ... plus the darn thing sounds brutal ... I likey ...

Accurate too, not a chrome lined barrel, but that actually helps your accuracy... and I don't use corrosive ammo!

.... good luck bro, let us know how it works for you!

Thanks, nothing special, made by CAI (Century Arms International) ... I recently replaced the pistol grip with a bakelite, made a nice difference:

Dude! ... that looks awesome too!

Heck, the bottleneck opener is more popular than I thought!
May I inquire as what muzzle device you're using?
And is the bottleneck opener custom made? Or is there a manufacturer for that too?

.... For my next UF, I may indeed go that route ..... :D

Your gas tube lever is not where it belongs. If it is swinging freely you may have to bend it so it functions.

I was THIS close to taking that one home but went with the WASR-3 instead. I love the WASR but someone needs to give that UF a good home :)
