Or brakes, or w/e we call them here in California.

I have the standard one now, but I see all kinds of neat looking ones. Is there a reason to use any of the other ones like the Noveske, or the Vortex, or are they just novelties for show?

Nevermind, I think I just answered my own question with a youtube search.

So, I guess now I have to ask... Is the AAC Blackout legal in California?

With a bullet button, any muzzle device that's a flash suppressor, comp or muzzle brake is legal. Things get trickier when you are running a featureless build.

How much time do you spend BSing in the off-topic if you have 5k posts and don't know the difference between a brake and a flash hider or that they serve a purpose? :p

The AAC Blackout is perfectly legal in CA.

First AR, and the first rifle I've owned in about 10 years. I can tell you all about handguns and a lot of rifles, just not the AR. :)

It was intended as a friendly jab, not the assault five-five.six took it to be. It's perfectly ok to not be a self-proclaimed internet ninja AR expert. ;) lol

No worried :D

I just put her together today so I'm still all giddy about it. Already planning upgrades and I haven't shot her yet... I'm so naughty...

Now I just need to score a good deal on bulk ammo.

Between the Blackout and Smith Vortex, I'd go with the Smith. We can't mount cans 9here in CA and the Vortex is ~ $30 compared to ~ $90 for the non-mount version of the Blackout and they have similar ability to mask flash signature.

The Smith Vortex is a great flash hider, I have them on a couple builds and only use them when I'm not using a comp. It's also pretty cool that it's self-tightening. The way the tines twist on it basically tightens the Vortex every time you shoot - just thread it on and go!

Best price I've found so far when I buy 7.62x54r. Shipping is very reasonable too.

I "might" be moving to NV next month. So, I might as well buy the hider that supports a suppressor.... You know, just in case... ;)
