I have not seen them for sale, but as a subsitute, you can purchase a regular nut and file it round. Metric nut.

Just a little thinking out loud -secure the nut to a threaded screw, insert to a hand held drill, spin & file gently for best results? Cut a screw slot with a file and done.

What's the thread count? I have a pretty good set of taps and could make one of those, I have some 4130 1/2" rod, I also have some 1/4" A2 rod.

Hmm that would be really helpful, I'll have to get back to you on that.
Not sure about the thread count yet, I am going to Lowes later to use their measurement device.

I was also thinking about grinding one down but I hope I can find one instead.

Went to Lowes and couldnt find anything. Just regular nuts; some of which didnt thread on right but the wingnuts threaded just fine.

I have a gauge that will tell me the thread count and pitch.

Any European (VW) car auto store will have Metric nuts too.

Try McMaster Carr

http://www.mcmaster.com/#

search for "Round slotted nut"

They're available lots of places

http://www.bikudo.com/product_search/details/53641/slotted_round_nuts.html (http://www.bikudo.com/product_search/details/5364/slotted_round_nuts.html)

Do you have a real hardware store near you? look there. If they don't have it ask them if there's a "nut and bolt supply house" or "fasteners" in your area.

AND, if you know about where in your back yard you dropped it get a GOOD magnet (you can buy strips about a foot long), cut it to fit a plastic bag and drag it around the area.

My backyard is all pebbles with a mix of other stuff. I have tried a few fastener distributors(fastenal, olander, Mr Metric) in the area and they all point me to china. I have also emailed a couple of those companies in the search results but no reply yet.

SJgunguy is my best bet...

I'm gonna make one for him, easy enough and I have the material and tools.

I posted a similar problem and somebody mailed me the whole assembly for $5. After that I saw them advertised as I was scrolling through one of the AK parts suppliers like Cope's or somebody. I have an excellent memory but access to it seems to be random at best.:)

+1 for SJGG. His quote isn't just him blowin' smoke. I had an immediate question the other day and he gave me a rang. Immediately. I won't forget that.

And until he can get repaid in kind I will help others as can, just as he had done here.
