Friend has an old sporterized Enfield he has owned for decades, wants to mount a scope but doesn't want to drill and tap.

Anyone know an inexpensive but reliable no-drill&tap mount out there? $61.00 from Brownells's wholesale is a bit much for his pocket.

which enfield, a #1 Mk 3, or a #4 mk 1. The #1 Mk3 no gunsmithing ones that I have seen are garbage, but the #4 mk 1 no gunsmithing is solid

I know nothing of Enfield's and he doesn't know what model he has. (how is that for non-specific?)

born in 1942 I would guess a No. 4?

unless it was made in india

If he looks on the left side of the reciever he might see some markings, this will possibly say No.4 Mk 1 or something similar, or if nothing is there it might be a #3mk 1

The ones from DAI are pretty good, but probably more than he wants to spend: http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=1502/Product/ENFIELD_No__4___No__5

I just noticed it was discontinued - maybe Gunbroker or Ebay will have used ones.
