So I got my 8 year old a Red Ryder BB gun to teach him how to shoot. The sights were disappointing to say the least..

Today I got a wild hair and decided to merge AR-15 peep sights with the red ryder. I ransacked my parts box, broke out the dremel and jb weld, and went to work. It is not pretty  but it's now as close to a tack driver as a $39.00 red ryder is ever going to be..

Enjoy!

Good job!

Thanks! It was nearly impossible to get anything resembling a decent group when it was stock. Now I can keep nearly all shots in a 1" square at 5 yards. :D

Did you test out the 600 yard marking to see if it works? :D

J/K great way to teach the use of aperture sights.

sand the jb weld down and do a camo job on it! You need a flashlight rail and maybe a red dot sight too. A laser wouldnt hurt :d

Be prepared for flocks of dead birds in your backyard, or just complaints from the neighbors. Ask me how I know....

Thats a tactical red rider. I bet that will shot your eye out. Let him get some time with your AR at the range stop messing around.

Let me tell you, this Red Ryder is amazing now..

I zeroed the matech at 200 for a 5 meter nra air rifle target. I can drop it down to 500 or 600 and it's a soda can killer at 30 meters. It is holding zero perfectly.

I've got a spikes 22lr ar that I've taken the boy to the range with. This is MUCH easier to explain the sight picture/sight alignment/focus on the front sight/respertory pause/squeeze the trigger/etc without all the sounds and action around you distracting the boy.

We've put about 500 bb's through it since I slapped it together yesterday and though it's ugly as sin, I am thrilled with the way it came out

We have tactical course shooting matches every couple days when we BBQ in the back yard. I might have to do this to our Daisy, it consistently shoots high and right no matter who's shooting it.:p

Post up your build pics here! The boy would get a kick out of it if he started a Daisy/AR "frankenstien build" fad

Hit the parts box, broke out the dremel and jb weld again today.

Now I can teach the boy use a hasty sling and shoot prone:D

Enjoy!

I don't want to bust your bubble but they have been using Daisy air guns with target sights for decades. Here's a link that shows the set-up. Your rig is kinda cool but it's already been engineered.

Nice customization!

My 6 year old boy has the same red rider....for training purposes similar updates using stuff from my bits/parts bin and garage may be in its future!

...now where's my hack saw blades and shoe goo?:43:

I like it!

But I'd wrap the buttstock in rawhide (or one of those slipon elastic ammo holders) to blend the cheekpiece with the buttstock.

But that's just me...
