Haha I got the pistol tube and my 10inch upper..

I looked at the 10inch when I got it in and it's perfectly fine for what I want to do. I was thinking the 10inch would be longer than it is but I like it. The 7.5inch is just SHORT... I might do a shorty 9mm but that's way later down the line.

What does a CNC machine like that cost ?

What does a CNC machine like that cost ?

Not quite the same, but you can get a small envelope CNC mill for $5.5k (http://littlemachineshop.com/products/product_view.php?ProductID=3503&category=1241045623) to $7.5k (http://littlemachineshop.com/products/product_view.php?ProductID=3828&category=1241045623) or so. You'll still need tooling after dropping the $5.5k-$7.5k.

That vendor is in Pasadena, so if you live nearby, the shipping costs are much smaller, but most of us will have to pay sales tax on top of those prices.

still need a LPK, bb, mags but I have that stuff on it's way.

looking good Z

I just need to get it together so I can zero it. AR15 sights are weird. I'm not use to the magpul buis, it's more of a peep sight style to me.

I'm an AK guy so I'm weird. Not going to miss the small little cut in the sight leaf.

Do you need to need to anodize the interior after it's milled out?

ke6guj
07-24-2010, 10:47 PM
you don't have to, but anodizing after it is milled and drilled is prefered.

Anodizing after the milling and drilling really "pulls the room together Dude" ;-)

Looking good Z!
Let me know if you ever want to PPT one of those pistol lowers to fund a different project.
A shorty AR kind of appeals to me seeing as I'm really enjoying my AK pistol build.

Its cheaper than a complete pistol lower, you don't have to DROS it and its fun to build your own.

Awwww 'Z' gotta cut the guy some slack if he really doesn't know the answer.

On an AR-15 80% receiver the area that 'Z' milled out is where the FCG of that firearm will sit.
Visual aides for you.

Typical 80% receivers with jig normally used to mill out FCG hole.

http://www.vbd.com/noc/images/products/242162255.jpg

Finished AR-15 receiver with FCG installed (one of these is for a 9mm):

http://www.quarterbore.com/nfa/ar10_ll/ar15-ar10-ll-01.jpg

One of the main reasons for milling an 80% to a finished receiver is to build an AR pistol.
Because of the CA approved handgun list the only ways (I know of) to get a receiver to build an AR pistol is:
1. mill it yourself as a dedicated pistol receiver.
2. PPT from someone (or LEO) that has one.

This is because 'AR pistol' is not on the CA approved handgun list, and stripped receivers are DROSed as 'long gun'. A rifle also can never be made into a pistol.

I hope this clears things up for you.
Most everyone in this forum section already knows these things hence 'Z' thinking you were joking.

Alrighty.................Now that's cleared up.

Carry on all :D

wow! i must say that is pretty interesting. yes you did clear everything up for me and i appreciate it (along with everyone elses' answers.) but like i said, i am more of a bolt guy. i had an AR15..for a few months. got rid of it then got another bolt gun haha. to each their own! again, thanks!

Yes I am being mean :)

Haha I can say more but I'll just be mean again.. Next time I mill out some more 80%s, I will take more pictures.

Sorry, I just get tired of the same questions again and again and again and again and again about stuff.

If you only saw my inbox during the GB..

PM after PM after PM after PM about why should I get an 80%, will you finish it for me, can you hold my hand and cupcake with me while I finish it. Okay the last one isn't word for word true but you get the basic idea of why I get tired about certain things.

Perhaps 'Z'...............
I don't buy into you being a 'Bad Guy' though :D

Oh, and if you really want annoying you should try stepping into my shoes for a few weeks.
"Your mod broke my game!"
"I followed your instructions, and it still doesn't work!"
"I get to where it should be, and all I see is a big yellow "!". WTF!"
"Could you make a video of it for me?"
"Could you make this uber sword for me?"
"The enchantments suck! Change them or I won't use your mod!" (Like I care if they use it).
Should I go on?
Minimum 5 of them a week from 4 different sites that host mods for me. No wonder I'm bald. :P

Guess what I am saying is "It could be worse Z".

Keep up the good work on the AR builds bud. I am looking forward to more pictures, and range reports!

LOL you know how I feel :)

I don't mind being the "bad guy", it comes in handy sometimes. If you only knew the stories of my days running the 24 hour fitness gym... I was always the bad guy.
