Big 5 in Fremont has .223 Rem 55gr By Remington in stock and on special.

$9.99 / box of 20

Is this a good price?

I want to thank the managers there for being patient and very helpful.

I would frequent this store anytime. They have many guns in stock and ammo too. Cleaning supplies gun socks........hey I don't have any connection other than I had a good experience here. I also bought my spotting scope there.

Thanks to the Big 5 in Fremont.

it's ok... cheaper than they usually have it. not as great as buyin in bulk online though... but if you're looking for a few rounds then jump on it. Last time I was at Big5 I think their .223 was like $17 something...

NO, not a good price. I have seen PMC Bronze advertised in Sacramento, River City Gun Exchange for $6.99 per 20. That is a decent price. Have seen it on the internet for $320 per 1000.

I'm here in Arizona right now doing my yearly tour of gun shops in the pheonix metro area. The cheapest 223 ammo I found was PMC bronze for 6.98 for a 20 box at US Autoweapons in Scottsdale. That seems to be a good price for factory ammo. 9.99 a box is a little high for FMJ. Keep shopping.

I think its a decent price for the current time. Wolf is cheaper but the ammo is lower quality. I think the Rem is good quality so thats a decent price. I would pick some up but I wouldnt buy a 1000 rds of it.

California Walmart's have Federal .223 100 round packs for $39.99 right now.

So, it's a good deal for "by the box", but not so hot for bulk.

Ed,

It's not a bad price for what it is. Shoots relatively clean and you can use the brass to reload.

All of the cheaper stuff that is pointed out in this thread shoots dirty and will foul your barrel quicker - maybe the exception is the UMC 50-count that was pointed out. Not as cheap as reloading from scratch but not bad either, IMHO.

John
